What do you use to play .bin files

I got a copy of RE2 but its in a .BIN file format what do i use to play that?

the_marq 09-14-2004 07:05 AM

You have to unpack it first with something like winrar. After unpacking it should be in a nice familiar format like wmv or mpeg.

Incorrect, you wont be able to UnRar it.

That is a Image file for a VCD, you will need the CUE file that was offered by the downloader, and use them both and a VCD burning program to create a CD that will play on your DVD player.

Alternatively, use Daemon tools, or Alcohol 120 to mount the image on a virtual DVD drive

the_marq 09-14-2004 10:14 AM

Hmm, well sorry if I mislead you. I recently downloaded 'The Punisher' in .bin format and I used winRar to unpack it.

Maybe I don't know everything after all.

zandor45w 09-14-2004 10:36 AM

if you go to start run and type in mplayer2 you should be able to play it in it. When you say file open just change file type to all.

mikec 09-14-2004 10:36 AM

if you have a .bin and .cue file, you can do 2 things:

burn the image to VCD using fireburner, nero or whatever you use to burn.

extract the file using VCDgear. VCDgear is awesome and I highly recommend it!

the_marq - the minute you think you know everything, you're going to put your foot in your mouth and be one upped my someone you thought was a chump. it's called murphy's law. never stop learning

Normally, .bin files are raw CD images - the easiest way to deal with them without burning CDs or DVDs (especially if you've got a DVD image on your computer and no DVD burner) is to get drive emulation software (Daemon Tools, CloneCD, or Alcohol 120%).

This software creates virtual drives on your computer which can then "load" a .bin, .iso, etc. as if they were real CDs/DVDs put into real CD/DVD drives.

so what one is the most correct w/o paying for a program?

Pragma 09-14-2004 06:09 PM

Daemon Tools is free, if that's what you're asking.

heyal256 09-14-2004 06:35 PM

Daemon tools is free, I'm not sure which cd burning programs are free, but you can always download the trial version of nero to burn the bin/cue file as an image onto a cd.

burnatonce burns cue/bin files and it's free

www.burnatonce.com.

www.videolan.org <--- download that. No codecs needed. Will play 99.999% of all the videos you will ever come accross. Will even play bin/cue files directly. Brilliant media player

The Phenomenon 09-15-2004 05:03 AM

WinRAR can unpack .iso disc images, so it might be able to unpack .bin images as well.

I use Daemon Tools to great effect. It mounts up the image as a virtual CD drive... Works pretty damn well.

Caphreak 09-15-2004 07:10 AM

Daemon tools is the best thing ever.

If you find a way to unpack the bin, youll have all the files that are contained in an svcd or dvd, so the easiest thing to do is mount it up as a virtual disc in daemon, and play it with a software dvd player.

Rawrr 09-16-2004 08:24 PM

I like Fireburner for all my bin / cue burning needs.

yotta 09-18-2004 10:43 AM

I use mplayer. It plays .bin images fine. It will play DVD iso images too.

MichaelFarker 09-28-2004 12:02 PM

This thread helped me figure it out. Thanks!
I'm using Daemon Tools and SoftDisk.

Considering you're using it to watch movies you've downloaded illegally (we'll skip the arguement for now, and yes I do it too) do you really care if they're free viewing programs?

I do second the VideoLAN recommenation.

mikec 10-04-2004 06:49 AM

just wanted to bump this thread to say that thanks to the people who suggested daemon tools. I am now using it, and it's awesome! thanks!!!

mkultra 10-06-2004 10:33 PM

I would suggest Daemon Tools over Alchoh0l 120. I know a lot of people that have had problems with Alchohol 120, but I've been running Daemon Tools for years with no problems. The one guy I know that had a big problem's mistake was installing both of them, apparently they cause problems with the drive setups.
