What do you know about Forever Flashlights (flashlights that are powered by shaking)?
I'm thinking about getting a forever flashlight.
What do you know about them and do you recomend them or advise against buying one? what's a good price for one? http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/lights/5a9f/ Quote:
EDIT: would you recomend another type of self charging flashlight? http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/tools/63d1/ |
I know how it works.
- Shake the flashlight. This wil move a magnet inside a coil wich produces power. - The power is stored inside a capacitor. - When the capasitor is fully loaded you can use it for a fw minutes. The second design was used decades ago. It's a good one. For both flaslights the is a disadvantage. When you don't use it once every month the capacitor can break down. |
They're pretty useless. You have to shake them for a minute and if that doesn't seem like much, it is. Gets you in practice for other things though. Like self gratification without the gratification. Then it only lasts a minute. The small ones are useless but the big one would be nice in a pinch. I have 3 and only the big one is useful for anything.
BUT They have a HUGE permanent magnet inside, gotta keep it away from credit cards hard drives, monitors, tv's all sorts of things. So they're a bit dangerous in that way. I like my l.e.d. flashlights. I suggest led.net Best of luck. Batteries remain a bitch, but I use rechargeables from energizer. |
my GF bought me one of them for my birthday in August to keep in my car/tackle box
So far it has worked just fine, I think it is a novel idea and if it lasts as long as it says it will (bulb) etc then it will be a nice cheap investment. |
Hm... tape it to your hand and...voilla... no more reading pornmags in the dark ;)
