overclocking advice

Does anyone have any good advice and instructions for how to overclock a Pentium 4 in a Dell Inspiron 5100 or know of a website with the info? I don't want to overclock much because its a laptop, but I would like to boost the perfomance a little. It currently runs at 2.4 GHz. If you need more info just let me know. Thanks

You have to be able to up the FSB, which is not something that most OEM machines can do. Also, laptops run in very tight tolerances in regards to heat--even if you could overclock them, it would be a very bad idea.

You've got a Dell, and that uses an Intel motherboard, which normally don't allow for any overclocking options.

Yeah, you're fucked. Intel chipset + Dell + Laptop = no overclock.

I knew that heat would be a real problem with a laptop, which is why I was not going to overclock much at all, but if Intel does not allow overclocking at all then I guess the point is moot.

oh you can overclock intel... mine is. just, when you buy oem computers from a company, especially dell, and its a laptop, very low chance you can overclock. you wouldnt want to anyway, would probably overheat

I take it you mean Intel processors, and not the motherboards they produce, because, in a "normal" circumstance, using a non-Intel motherboard, yeah, you can do a good bit of overclocking, but with an Intel-produced motherboard, there's very little threshold or forgiveness.

Like all those already posted. I wouldn't recommend overclocking any laptop, period. But if you really must induldge yourself... try overclockers.com.

there is no point to overclocking it, the performance boost is negligible for the extra heat and stability it will cause.
