Recommend me some stuff.

Hey I am building my parents a computer with my leftover hardware (i just upgraded). So far it will be a Athlon XP 1800+, Abit KX333, 256MB PC2700. I still have to buy a Case, video card, audio card and hard drive. I have been looking at enlight cases because i have one and i dig them quite a bit. I, however, have a leftover 300W power supply that i would like to get some use and most enlight cases (at least the decent ones) come with a 300W PS. They would like to have USB up front because they are planning on getting a digital camera at some point.

As for the video card, they have a sony video camera that they wish to hook up to the pc and rip video from, they want to basically make DVD's out of home movies. What would you recommend for a video card? They dont need any fancy 3d, just something that is decent enough and has the port capibilities to hook this video cam up to.

Audio card, really doesnt matter, any decent cheap cards around yall know about? No EAX, no 24 bit HD, no 8million.1 or anything like that, just want to hear some cd audio and mp3s.

Hard drive, im thinkin 60-80 gig, any input or recommendations?

For the soundcard, most onboard stuff is more than fine for a home user.

I dont know what kind of connection that camcorder has to plug into the machine... If its just USB, make sure the motherboard has USB 2.0 plugs or that you buy a card. Otherwise if its some sort of video input, just make sure you get a card with that input. Doesnt sound like theyll be doing much hard with that machine, so get something cheap--that 9200 should be just fine.

What kind of PSU is the one that you have? The PSU is something you dont want to skimp on--make sure its a quality one.

I am giving them my Abit KX333 so no onboard audio or usb2.

Camcorder has (i think) s-video and DVI

the psu came with my current enlight case, its generic but i have been using it for years with no problems

Anyone have any suggestions? I will probably go with that 9200 as long as i am correct in thinking that it will work with their sony cam.

Well, most digital video cams don't come with DVI - they usually come with Firewire (IEEE 1394).

I don't think most video cards support Firewire input - however, many Sound Cards do. At least some of the SB Audigy cards do, and I'm sure others as well. Or, even easier, you can get a Firewire/USB PCI card, and many come with a front panel with both USB and Firewire hookups. Like this one:

I think that one also comes with a Firewire cable. Getting a front panel would eliminate the need for a front USB connection on the case, and it would add Firewire capability.

All of this might be silly if it's not a digital video camera, because analog camcorders usually only come with AVI and S-Video hookups. Look into what connections their camera has, and you can make a much more informed decision.

Personally, I would recommend a PCI card like the one I showed you. Then you can get a cheap case and not worry about it (as long as it has a 3.5" front bay for the front panel). And grab a cheap round cable to hook it up.

As for your video card, the 9200 should work regardless. It's a decent card, and they won't be putting too much strain on it, so they should be fine.

Ok, i think im going to pick up that front panel usb/firewire deal you showed me. Most likely i will get the 9200 as well unless you can suggest a cheaper more fitting option for them. As for the case im debating again.

Is the cheaper one a lil to ghetto?

Edit: what about this?

Edit2: Camcorder is a Sony DCR-TRV230
