New system.... need help
Since the wife left last week I bought a new system.
It's an MSI MEGA651 system. Instead of a vertical tower I have a horizontal. I have a Pentium 4, Lite on DVD+-R/RW 8x LDW811, Maxtor 120GBU133/7200, Kingston 512MB PC2700 C2.5 Non ECC DDR with a Viewsonic monitor and Windows XP Home Ed. Ver 2002, and an MSI Wireless K/B w/Mouse Software included: CyberLInk Power DVD XP Icopy DVDs 2 Sonic My DVD installer disc It also doubles as a DVD/CD/AM/FM Radio reciever. My question is: does it sound like a good system and what printer should I get? I was recommended from the salesman to get a LexMark 5150. To show how puter illiterate I am I have never heard of any of these companies (Except MS's Windows and Pentium of course). Anyway any reviews on the system and where to go to burn games and DVD's (my soon to be ex Father In Law could burn anything, so I know it's possible, just don't know where or how) would be deeply appreciated. Thanks, Phil

How many GHZ on your Pentium 4?
It doesn't sound that bad but I don't really know anything about that brand. It's generally best to get well-known brands (like Dell) if you're not really into computers. Otherwise you end up getting screwed. As far as printers, I usually don't pay attention to that all that much. I've had brother priners, hp (hewlett packard) printers, lexmark printers etc. They all do pretty much the same thing. It's more about the type of printer you get. Laser printers are good for printing lots of documents. Inkjet printers are kind of expensive ink-wise but they're cheaper, take up less space and they're fine if you want to print colored documents or don't use the printer that much. |

The Pentium has 2.8 GHZ w/ 512K and 533FSB.
A friend told me that MSI is used by a lot of companies that heavily use computers, but I don't know. I went to Best Buy and Circuit City and didn't see much. The place I bought from has some GOv't contracts and schools and they build the systems instead of having them shipped pre-built. The salesman told me like with Dell everything is soldered together so if like the processer goes bad you have to buy everything, whereas with this if it goes bad I can replace just the processer. Don't know how true that is. Plus he said this system unlike the Dells and Gateways advertised on TV or systems comparable in price ($1000 w/ monitor and speakers) at CC and BB are not that capable of maintaining decent 3D game play where as this I should be able to run anything out there without too much trouble or loss of speed.

MSI = Micro-Star International this is the system I have it comes from their website.
Barebone System MSI™'s barebone system products has a significant amount of features and advantages. First of all, we need to mention MSI™'s exclusive design of using CPU fan duct board and the idea of installing the system fan on the side; this not only speeds up the heat dispersing and makes the whole process very smooth. This design is very quiet and noise-free. It only produces 28.6 decibels of noise under the state of power on, and you can barely hear any sound. In addition, it uses the latest main stream Magnetic Levitation Fan to solve the most difficult problems of barebone systems - which are noises and high temperatures. The advantages also include a lasting long life with almost no problems such as fall out rate. MSI™ combines the new trends of E-generation to develop the MEGA series. This new series blends in home appliance and PC. One of the best features is to listen to the radio, CD and MP3 without turning on the PC main system. By using this series, you can also watch TV programs by connecting the TV card to the screen.

MSI boards are very reliable. Good choice.
For ripping, decrypting and burning, there are 4 programs that I use. DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, Alcohol 120%, and Nero. That will do everything you mentioned above about burning pc games, console games, dvds, etc.
