Anyone out there running Alienware equiptment?
I have an Area51M lapto 2.4Ghz w/1GB Ram. I opted for the second battery as the battey life is maybe 1.5 hours on a single one. I have also started ordering their workstations for work (we already had 3 other laptops)
We have 3 identical laptops sames as mine only 512MB RAM. and we just recently recieved 4 Area 51 dual Athlon XP220+ machines. For the price f the workstatiosn, nothing compares in price for the speed you get. Anyway just curious how many people acutally own or have even touched one of these machines.

I do not own one but I have touched one and they are very nice. I like how clean and well laid out they are inside. I need to clean up the wires in my own case after seeing what they are able to do.
What, may I ask, do you do that requires such high-end computers?

Graphic Arts and I'm not a MAC Guy. Actually I used to be inteh Art dept now mostly I just take care of Network issues and help the art dept when they are swamped. So I needed something portable yet very powerful. (And good for gaming on the weekends)

Are you sure about this? I'm not saying you're right or wrong, just curios.. They do have one model that is the same exact case. Wher did you find out this info?
A strange thing is that components are cheaper through Alienware - take the 2nd battery for example $34 cheaper. Anyway any information helping me verifythis would be great.

I had read that Alienware notebooks were Sagers awhile back in a couple of Usenet threads. I went back and checked again, and now I'm seeing stuff that says that Alienware and Sager machines are both rebadged Clevos.
http://www.clevo.com.tw/products/desknote.asp Anyway, it appears that they are made by the same manufacturer. http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...net%26rnum%3D3 |

I did notice that buying from Saber is a fair bit cheaper, I'm checking out Clevo right now. Thanks for the info.

I looked at buying Alienware, and for the cool factor alone, its the only thing I'd buy. However, when it comes to the cash flow factor is hella expensive and no where near my budget. Who was 3-4 grand to drop on a pc? sure not me...I my little laptop is doing me just fine

Clevo manufactures for Alienware, Saber, Prostar, Toshiba and others.
Only difference is price and maybe some bells and whistles included in certain packages. blindawg, I've actually been looking at the Alienware Area51 and Prostar 8834 laptops (16 inch screens). Thinking of replacing my desktop with something more portable. But at over 11 lbs. just how portable is this beast? Ever lugged it a great distance or taken it on an airplane?

If I had the money, Alienware'd be what I buy. They use top-notch components, their service is good (I've heard), but what really does it is their cases are damn nice.
Example: Not just nice to look at, also nice to work in, uncluttered.

Re: Anyone out there running Alienware equiptment?
I'm also running an Alienware Area51-m laptop. 2.4Ghz with 512MB of ram. All topped off with a conspiracy blue case . I love it. Sure, it's heavier than your average laptop but really it's only about 11lbs and it's a desktop replacement.
If you've got the cash then I'd definitely recommend this computer. SLM3 |

Here's my laptop
And here are the 4 dual Athlon 2200+ boxes I ordered for work. We also have 2 other laptops.. as well. I think I may go saber If I order any more. Their identical laptops seem to run about $600-$700 less. The second one from the right that appears dark metallic green is actually the Chameleon color. It's realy sweet.

I almost bought the alienware 51M but they stopped doing the colour i wanted. so i went to sager and bought the better model from them for cheaper, here was a mixup in the ordering they gave me a 2.8G p4 instead of the 3.0 P4 hyperthreaded so i went in and while i was there i saw a new prototype case, which had the colour i wanted and they swapped it out for me, it was still about 1500 cheaper than the 15M and i have 16" screen instead of a 15"
they are all similar models, each of them uses the same base hardware, and build it themselves.they aren't identical, but they are pretty darn close. its 16" LCD, 1G Ram 160GB harddisk space, ATI tv tuner, radeon 9000, got a numpad, 1600x1200 res, built in removable mp3 player, tv in, tv out, firewire , 4 usb ports, ps2 mouse, keyboard , parallel and serial port 3.0G P4 and a cool paint job that changes colour in the light, alienware call it chameleon , they didnt have it l a few weeks ago when i bought mine |

Alienware is probably the best PC I have ever owned/used. I have experiece with Dell & Gateway & and many "Made in Someone's Garage" brands. It's never given me a minute's trouble. Mine is about 1 1/2 years old (desktop, P IV 2 GHz, 512 MB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 3, CD-RW, DVD). I like the clean layout inside the case and the use of high-end but standard parts. Yes, it cost more, but I'll gladly pay for a fast, well designed system. Can't wait until I need a new PC, the new case looks great.
My only complaint is that it's LOUD due to all the fans. |

It's funny...I just worked on an Alienware PC onsite a few days ago.
Nothing their fault, it was just a bad drive and it's common. Great machine, fun company. The Tech and I talked about Battlefield 1942 and running over people with tanks, while the Customer on site was getting antzy to buy the game. Alienware is a great company, all I dislike though is how much their machines are. Yet when I looked at the receipt their Burn-in test for their machines are intensive. Benchmarks a plenty. Alienware = Great machines, high price Dell = Good to great machines, AMAZING price. It's like buying luxury or basic cars...all in all they both go forward and reverse.
