6800 ultra? 800x? fx-53?
Ok im building a new system and im not sure which video card to get. Im looking at either a 6800 ultra or a ati 800x xt. As for the processor im looking at a AMD 64 fx-53. I would like to go with that processor but its a little too pricey for my wallet. So i was wondering what you guys think i should do.

Whats your budget?
If you can find the 6800 Ultra, its a wonderful card--plenty of bang for your buck (but it takes a lot of bucks ). I have the 6800 non-ultra, and its a great card. Personally, I think the FX processors are a waste of money. Save some cash and get something slightly slower and half the price.

Right now, the sweet spot that I can see is the Athlon64 3400+ (which lets you get into a cheapish socket 754 motherboard, and the 939 really doesn't buy you a lot anyways) and the geforce 6800GT, which is just an underclocked 6800 Ultra for about $100 or so less.
Unfortunately the X800 Pro has a lot fewer rendering pipelines than the X800 XT, so it's a much worse deal than the 6800 GT |
