Using Headphones...

I've been trying to use headphones on the computer recently and to my dismay, none of the jacks on my soundcard seem to be the right ones. I have a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 soundcard and Klipsch Promedia GMX 5.1 speaker system (I don't think this has anything to do with my speakers, but I may as well include it).

On my old computer, I could just unplug the speakers (the shitty stock ones) and plug my headphones into the same jack and be good to go -- why won't this work now? Shouldn't I just be able to plug my headphones into the soundcard?

Am I doing something wrong here, or can I just not use headphones with my particular setup? It seems like I couldn't be doing something wrong for such a simple little problem, but on the other hand I think it would be pretty damn silly for my soundcard to be somehow not compatable with headphones.

Any help would be appeciated bundles and bundles, cause this is driving me crazy.

Have you tested the headphones lately?

They should work as long as you put them in the "line out" port or whatever port you would put the front left and right speakers in if you have surround sound.

I've got the same problem. I have the Klipsch 4.1s. No headphone jack, and the jacks on the computer don't work.

Yes, they work fine with a cd player.

They don't, unfortunately, work with the line out port. I just did a little looking through my soundcard software and configured everything for headphones instead of speakers, and lo! loud fuzziness emerged from yon headphones -- but that is all. No sound comes through still. I'm getting somewhere at least...

Have you tried going into the control panel, then up to sound and audio devices

Make sure the volume is not on mute.

Odd. I just unplug my speakers and plug my headphones into that jack. Works like a charm, and I have an Audigy.

Good luck.

WEll the volumes not on mute, and my speakers don't plug into the same place my headphones would. It has a different type of connection.

I've tried unplugging the speakers too, and I get nothing.

Eh, I give up (again). There's no reason it shouldn't work, just doesn't.

i would venture to guess that your speakers are powered, therefore amplifying the soundcard's output, while your headphones are not.

it's kinda like why you can't plug 1/4" headphones into an electric guitar jack without the headphones being powered somehow.

i'm not sure if that's the real reason of your problem, but that's my guess.
