Time to Trash IE??
After reading this, http://www.securityfocus.com/columnists/249 I wanted to ask you guys if you think it is really time to get a new browser, and if so which browser do you suggest. I have been a long time fan of IE. So what do you think?

There are several threads about getting rid of IE.
http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...threadid=62229 http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...threadid=61453 http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...threadid=53429 I use Firefox, as do a lot of people here. |
Its been time to get rid of IE for about two years now--its just the recent wave of attacks has made it even more compelling.
Two words: Mozilla FireFox. Ive used it for a year and a half, and havent looked back. |
I have resisted getting rid of IE for a long time now, mostly because I was 'used to it.' The shortcut keys were second nature and everything was where I expeted it to be. When I tried to use Opera, it was like trying to masturbate with my left hand...mildly amusing, but just awkward and clumsy.
Mozilla Firefox has an interface VERY similar to IE, infact there is a skin that even makes it look like IE. Plus it has the added bonus of the tabbed interface. After trying it for just a week I set it as my default browser and don't intend on going back to IE for anything but a few exceptions. |
Ditto. I threw IE in the trash and now am a happy Mozilla Firefox user. MS IE sucks ass! Get out there, there are other alternatives yo!
|
I use Firefox, and you would have to give me a full harem to make me switch back to IE.
|
Yeah, firefox owns. No Popups. Ever! Not even one...:)
And its real nice and stable, the tabs rule, etc. No reason to use the sin known as IE. |
I'm using Firefox, too.
Damn good browser, IMO. BB PS - I'll take that harem in exchange for IE, as well. Afterall, it's only a browser. ;) |
Using IE and FireFox here together and I must say I am VERY VERY impressed with FrieFox. Seems to be very stable, the tabbed windows is nice, Just that I have IE so damn tuned to my liking I am still fighting the switch though I do not see much of a defensive front.

Yet another FireFox vote....
|
Also using firefox here. my complaint right now is that the toolbars arent moveable like IE. you cant move toolbars next to each other. so i have google toolbar and airoboform toolbar stacked on top of each other. wasting alot of space.

i tried that secret.. all i get is an option to drag in buttons. i mean i wanna go from this
file edit view etc ------------------------------------------------------ < > reload etc |http://www.tfproject.org ------------------------------------------------------ google toolbar |_________|:::wasted:::::: ------------------------------------------------------ Roboform toolbar |fill|etc|::wasted space:: ------------------------------------------------------ | TAB || TAB || TAB | to this file edit view etc ------------------------------------------------------ < > reload etc |http://www.tfproject.org ------------------------------------------------------ google toolbar |_________|Roboform toolbar |fill|etc| ------------------------------------------------------ | TAB || TAB || TAB | i dont know if it came out right but hopefully you know what i mean. i want to move google toolbar right next to roboform toolbar. |
oh hmmm, I don't have any installed toolbars so I'm not sure how one would do that :|
|
I've got it set up like this: Uses alot less screen size...
[removed] Once you get used to the shortcuts, the buttons simply get in the way. |
I'm using Firefox and Epiphany from X, and Firefox alone when I use other machines. I've gotten a few people to switch to Firefox, too, by telling them that that virus that neutralized their Windows-based OS was likely spread via IE.
On another note, does anyone know of any good, lightweight browsers for MacOS 8.6? I acquired a Performa 6360 (which is like an x200 series, without the major hardware fuckups and with a PCI slot) and want to use it as a sort of gaming box (All my games work on it-- StarCraft, Brood War, Diablo 1, and WarCraft 2/expansion) but the only hangup is a web browser (to look up cheats and info while gaming) and an mp3 player that can handle streaming audio (and isn't payware). Suffice it to say that some game music just sucks. |
Opera all the way here with Firefox as an almost never used backup.
|
Another vote for Firefox. I only use IE when some of my company's crap web apps "best viewed with IE" require it....
|
Just made the switch last month, just found the thread about extensions and themes tonight....
