Alright, so it's time to buy a new mouse.

Well my MS Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 is starting to flake out (random left clicks when i'm not pressing the button) and it's time to buy a new mouse. Now i've pretty much seen that the Logitech MX510 is THE wired mouse to get for both gaming and normal desktop use.

I have been thinking about branching out into the wireless mice, since my case sits far from my actual workspace and my mouse and keyboard cords are stretched to the max. The two i've though about are the Logitech MX700 and MX900. I've heard many good things about the 700, in that it's great for gaming and everything else. That the 700 proves that wireless mice are now for gamers and all the lag worries from before are gone, is that the truth?

My other choice is the MX900 which is basically the 700 though with Bluetooth. Now in this case, i can actually use bluetooth since my printer uses bluetooth (HP 955c) and my wife's computer has a bluetooth dongle she uses to print and sync. I'm just unsure about the 900 since i've read it actually transfers half as fast as the 700 does, and that scares me. I play fast paced FPS games as well as MMO's that use a lot of quick movements.

Has anyone used these mice (especially the MX900) and can tell me how they work with games and desktop programs? Or anythoughts on this in general?

Well, I have the MX500 and it ROCKS. I've read nothing but great things about the MX700 and if it wren't for the price I would have gotten that instead. As for the MX900, I'd think about how much you'd actually USE the Bluetooth. I don't have Bluetooth, so I really don't know, but it doesn't seem to me like bluetooth on a mouse is something that would make a significant impact on your life making things easier.

Perhaps the debate between the MX700 and MX900 isn't even worth having if you think about it. But then again, perhaps it is. Like I said, I don't have bluetooth, so maybe there's a lot more that can be done by having a bluetooth mouse than I think *shrug*

Hehe, i actually got this MS mouse that way. But with two of them crapping out on me, i'm ready to try something new and Logitech seems to be the way to go.

And SecretMethod, I do use Bluetooth regularly for Palm Syncing and printing. I've just recently though moved my Bluetooth Dongle to my wifes computer and now i'm without. That is why the Bluetooth is so interesting to me now.

Just snagged myself 2 free wireless optical mice.

:D

They don't have the extra buttons though

I say go for a Logitech mx510. Its wonderfull.

The MX510 has special drivers specifically for gamers. It lets you make use of the 5 of the 8 buttons in games at a time. By default, that's every button except the two cruise buttons and the task switcher. You can move the mapping around, but you have to be careful because the in-game functions are tied to certain desktop functions.

Buttons 1-5 in-game are tied to left click, right click, middle click, browse back, and browse forward, respectively.

For example, if you wanted Button 1 in-game to be the middle click (instead of Button 3), you would actually have to middle click around the desktop to select stuff, instead of left clicking.

Another example, if you wanted to browse back/forward with the cruise buttons instead of the two side buttons, Buttons 4 and 5 in-game would also be mapped to those cruise buttons.

As it is, I haven't had any need to change the default button map. However, I don't see the reason Logitech put in this restriction...

Edit: I noticed I never said it - this is a great mouse. I upgraded from the Logitech Dual-Optical, and I can definitely feel the difference.

I have a MX700, and I would whore myself downtown for a new one if my current mouse ever broke. No joke, I would freaking pull tricks for a MX700.

I used a mx900. I was not impressed at all. The mouse did not feel connected with the cursor on the screen. But the mx900 is the first cordless I have touched so maybe I was not used to it or something.

i picked up the MXDuo (Mx700 and matching wireless kb) for 60bucks canadian thru a pricematch with Staples.

Greatest 60bucks ever spent. I went from a old 5yr old dell quiet key, and intelliexplorer to this. What a difference.

I have the mx700 going from the Explorer and my what a change that was. mx700 is the best wireless out there right now I would say, but...
I would check this out to see if none of these suit your fancy http://www.tomshardware.com/consumer...709/index.html

I have considered trying a new mice but many of them are horribly twisted for the right hand* and thus renedered useless to me. The only thing that would place a mice in my right hand for more than a minute would be a bad sprain or similar injury to my dominant side.

*I personally accept nothing less than the side buttons or equivalents for forward/back or copy/paste after using them for so long.
