Free Win XP!
This awesome thingy has ended. Sorry.
Some of you have probably heard of this already, but M$ has this training program for some of its new crap. If you go through it, and take some quizzes, you can earn yourself a free copy of XP pro(EDIT: no more XP, read below), wireless mouse, and more. All you have to do is invent a company, set up a passport account, and then train. Make sure your company address is your own. For all those who don't want to learn, go here. Of course, I bet some of you are paranoid about giving your address to M$, but this was on Kevin Rose's (of TSS) website. I think it's legit. EDIT: BTW, I copied the answers from the forum that Kevin Rose linked to...and is now a dead link (good thing I thought to save them) |
interesting.. i'll investigate this later when I have more time.
|
Well, it seems that they took down one of the quizzes ("all courses" or "final quiz" or something) so no more XP.
Currently available (and attainable) Cross Ion Pen [400] Flight Simulator 2004 [400] Swiss Army Cyber Tool [700] Wireless Opitcal Mouse [700] Encarta Reference Library 2003 [700] Available but not enough points Keyboard and Mouse Combo (wireless?) [1500] XP Pro [1500] Swiss Army Travel Kit [1500] Swiss Army Watch [2500] You can currently get 1400 points |
???
So I sign up as a new company, take some quizzes and get free stuff? |
hahaha damn this is awesome
thanks a ton ;) |
I read about the old MS conferences on slickdeals.net and they used to be really good. A couple of my friends got free pizza dinners, MS shirts and copies of XP pro for attending the conferences about upcoming MS products (even though none of them were into computer sciences). However word got out about the conferences so now they only offer crappy software that the average person doesn't want and can't be resold on Ebay.
Whoops, just re-read your post and has nothing to do with the conferences. Oh well. |
1400 points can get you two wireless optical mice :)
Sweet ass! Just placed my order, and I'll have em in 8 weeks. |
*Phew* Ok, finally got done. Hopefully the wireless mouse and swiss army knife comes through *crosses fingers*
Thanks ! |
i dunno i never got my fucking posters.. i doubt youll see a mouse
|
Well I DID get the posters...... so many I don't know what to do with them.
|
I did it, only got 1375 points, so ordered a mouse and a cross ion pen
|
Mine says nothing about points, nor free stuff.
Is it because Im Canadian? :( |
dead link.. They took it down.
|
Nope, it's not dead. Just checked it.
@silver76>> yeah, they hate Canada :p No, but Canadians can't do it. If you follow the second link I gave ya, and follow the directions and don't skip anything, you should get a slick 1400 points. My total is XP Pro (:D), knife, mouse, two pens. Just sign p with new email addys, enter the same company and different people. |
hahah damn, they stopped it.
It works if you have an existing account, but if you try to get a new one, it says "Stay tuned". I was about to sign up with 5 different addresses, get 3 flight sims per account (400 points each) and sell em on ebay! Plot foiled!:D |

So, it doesn't work. Those of you that got TWO wireless mice - anyone wanna send one my way? :p
|
Since we live just down the road from MS, they call my fiance often for beta testing. So far we've gotten two copies of server 2003, 3 copies of XP pro, some games and a few books.
They sent us a letter yesterday asking him to come in sometime this month. I think we'll hit them up for a copy of office this time around. ;) |

Well, software wise, anyway. All you have to do is call them and say your CDs were scratched when you opened the box. They'll ask you to read the UPC label, but generally you can read off any old BS to them and they'll send you a new copy. I did this with Visual C++ 6.0 Pro and Visual Basic 6.0 Pro a few years ago. I got the VB6 product code off of a product manual (they sell em separately as books in book stores). The C++ one.. I actually gave them a UPC code from a RedHat Linux box :D Had new copies in my mailbox a week later. This was before broadband was in my area, so downloading 600+ megs from usenet was unheard of. With hardware, it's just as easy, but I personally have never tried it. Friends of mine have. If you have, say, Intellimouse explorer, just call and say that it broke and you need a replacement. They NEVER ask you to send your old one in! |
Microsoft had another thing going for a while there where you'd watch their little videos (or click on the link to say you watched them) and after you did this 3 times, they would send you a software pack with VB, msdn devkit, and a few other pieces of software.
|
Damn, thats why I didnt get any info on points and the such....
Im currently set up as a user in Canada, but I have an address in the States, Could I redo my personal info and they'll give me points for the work Ive done? |

Too bad you didn't do this back on the 15th. Oh well, back to getting free stuff the old fashioned way -- p2p |
I dont d/l stuff except music of p2p.
I feel like I would get a virus. (normally do) too bad too, because I really want flight sim. :( |

Please tell me you are kidding right? Getting a virus from Microshaft is highyl unlikely since it is a program to earn the software from them. I would say learn how to get things the legal way (such as this) and save yourself the hassles of p2p |
