It looks good, except I have one question. Doesn't the socket 754 3200 come with 1mb L2 cache? If not, you might consider the 3500, which I'm pretty sure DOES have the 1mb. The L2 cache will make a significant difference. In Socket 939, the L2 has shown to make less of a difference, but since you're going with 754, you might want to look into it. The difference between 512 and 1mb is significant, and definitely worth the price.
I could be wrong, though... maybe all 64s come with 512. Anyone? |

Great system, my only thought would be that as AMD has already backtracked on their continued support of socket 940 in favor of socket 939, the few extra $$ invested now in 939 may pay off down the road.
Also, it may pay of as well to wait a few months for PCI Express vid cards to become more available and drop a bit than going with AGP. AGP will probably be around a bit, but PXI-Express will definately provide more options further down the road. Otherwise, great system man!

Nah, man, if you get a black case, it's pretty much mandatory that you have a black FDD! Unless you're stealing one from another black computer. Then, more power to ya!

The reason I haven't made a computer yet is becuase I was waiting for 939 but since they only came out with high end processors I'm not going to go that way. It would add another couple hundred dollars. I figure in a few years I could get a new mobo and processors and keep everything else and the extra im saving now could almost pay for that.
I'm building this for school so I can't really wait any longer since I'm leaving in a month. |

Floppy Drive? What is that?
If you must have something, but in a card reader that fits in the same slot. I bought a black one the other day from buy.com for $18.00 and I grabbed a USB key while I was at it just in case. I am waiting around for: 1. Money 2. PCI Express 3. Maybe I will just mod the exterior of a case first (will take a while with bondo, painting, sanding and everything else. 4. Maybe I will build a shuttle Freevo first for my entertainment center.

First thought upon seeing the case: that sideways mounting of harddisks could be *very* bad for your SATA drive. The reason is that SATA connectors on harddisks typically are very (very) fragile. If the cable isn't bend properly, the connector might eventually break off when you open and close the case often. (I've broken the connector on my WD Raptor, and am lucky it still works at all.)
Second thought: how about a silent VGA cooler for the loud 9800 pro? |
