I used winex for regular apps when the normal WINE was being a PITA but I always just installed games natively in Linux. Back then you only had like 10-12 to choose but that's gotten better from a couple years ago. It ran windows apps better than real WINE so I can recommend it in that respect.

I have not used it personally, but everything I've heard about WineX has been EXCELLENT. <a href="http://www.transgaming.com/">Transgaming</a> renamed WineX to Cedega with the most recent release, and it's supposed to be better than ever. I used WineX to play Warcraft 3, Alice and HL. While it's not 100% of what you would get from a Windoze machine some games play great. Most problems have to do with menus, Alt-tabbing and sound. Pay for the subcription, it's well worth the $5 ( I think ) a month for the added support and latest builds.
