Can somebody breakdown the Firefox Nightlies?
I know you're coming to the rescue on this one RL.
![]() It gets pretty confusing choosing one. What's the difference between 2004-07-10-09-0.9 as opposed to 2004-07-10-10-0.9? I really don't see the difference. Other than the underlined portion; which I don't know what stands for. I do understand though the portion before that is the date and the portion at the end is the build. So, then what's in the middle? ![]() Break this one down for instance:
What I have gathered though [through the FF forums] is that trunk/branch builds are more stable, and closer to the 1.0 milestone. The nightlies are more likely to be buggy. Well... which do I download? Yeah, I've been bit by the Firefox bug. ![]()

I think the 09 and 10 have something to do with mac builds and windows builds, I'm not too sure. Just click one of the links and you'll either see something that says mac or win32 (or possibly something for linux) in the file name.
The difference between the trunk and branch (ones that don't say trunk) is in the Firefox Branch/Trunk Builds FAQ - http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewto...8be85d905e79a3 Unfortunately, it doesn't explain much to me either. I think the branch ones have new features added and they have the possibility of more bugs. If you want to see the fixes in each date's build and the new bugs (if any) go to http://www.squarefree.com/burningedge/ EDIT: And the trunk and branch builds are both nightlies. If you want a stable release, you want the milestone. The current milestone release is 0.9.2 - it includes the fix for the latest vulnerability, other than that, same as 0.9.1 Last edited by bob32; 07-11-2004 at 11:26 AM.. |

I think the underlined number it has to do with the time of release, or perhaps the machine that is doing the build. Anyway, I ignore those directories.
You want to work on the Branch builds (aka AVIARY) for now, which is what will become 1.0. The trunk is what is preparing for 1.1, but most of the fun is happening on the branch for now. Index of /pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-0.9 will always get you the latest nightly build for each platform. I highly recommend reading the threads by Peter(6) in the Firefox Builds forum. He has a list of all the fixes put in for that nightly build, as well as a list of significant regressions and/or longstanding bugs. There's also an RSS feed, referred to in the ifrst post for each build.

Thanks guys!
That's the answer I was looking for RL. ![]() And, yup, the Burning Edge looks great. Can hardly wait for 1.0!

This is a very good time to be keeping up with the very latest nightlies. Lots of fixes over the weekend, and today's build looks like a number of good fixes as well.
(edit) Just got the 0713 nightly. Now, if you hit the Escape key, it will kill all animation on the currently-viewed page. This will be VERY handy in the TFP Nonsense forum...
