try googling for the program "spyware search and destroy". It has jet to fail me once.

Bamrak 06-26-2004 04:23 AM

a combination of spybot search and destroy and ad aware has not failed me yet. Between the two it should get all spyware.

Throw in SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard too.
:D

CWShredder and Hijackthis.

Well, as I said I had spy sweeper. that would find some spyware.
I used it to delete it, but when I would run it again it would show up again.
I then got the search and destroy prog and it does the exact same thing.
I cant get rid of this stuff.

I would format my computer, but I lost my xp disc.
If I have my valid liscense, but no disc what would I do to get a new legit copy w/out paying lots of $$ for a new copy?

YOu do not need to reinstall XP. Just cleaned a ton a crap off of my sons XP PC last night. Used every software that was mentioned here. But first I made sure the Virus scanning software was current and then scanned his box. That found a trojan program that was probably at fault for his constant hijacking. Then I ran in order Ad-Aware, Spybot (and immunized the PC), HijackThis (found programs running in 'silent' mode), installed Spywareblaster and ran CWshredder (which found nothing) PC is good as new.

I downloaded all the programs to another PC and burnt them to a CD. As I installed each one, I checked for updates. And I also made sure XP was fully up to date.

Oh yeah, I also installed the Google toolbar to kill pop-ups.

hmm, my virus definitions are a bit old. I guess Ill renew them to see if I have anything wrong in that dept first.

Temporary_User 06-26-2004 01:53 PM

hmm, liveupdate is unable to connect to the internet?

Bamrak 06-26-2004 04:05 PM

You can also use http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ which is an online virus scan, which can't be compromised as easily as virus scanners residing on your hard drive.

I like to have WinPatrol running---it is free and it tells me when ever there is a new program trying to install that I did not authorize...

It can also show you what is running or will be running from the startup program...

Temporary_User 06-28-2004 01:32 PM

damn, I did that online virus, I had 85 things, they were all unfixable and in my schache folder so I deleted them all.
system32.exe said it had a virus, so I deleted that as well....
can you do that?
