Windows Version?!
Hey, how is everything? You guys may remember me from when I had the startup problem, but it turned out it was only my mouse...
Well, anyway, I have encountered another problem. I recently installed Windows XP (15 minutes ago as a matter of fact) But the problem is, I still have Windows Millenium Edition installed somewhere in my HDD. The thing is, I don't know how to get rid of it, and all the space that it was taking up (along with the programs I had on it) are still there. I have a 40 gig HDD, and since I had a lot of programs when I had ME, I only have 24 Gig's left. Please, if there is any way that I can uninstall Windows ME, please tell me how. My gratitude towards you is eternal. |
I always found it easier to format my hard drive, then install a new OS. You're going to be in a heap of crap trying to unistall all the ME files from your computer.
My suggestion would be backup any files you want to keep and format your hard drive, then install XP. |
The only way to get rid of WinME at this point is to format your drive and reinstall XP.

a few questions....
is your ME partition hidden from your XP partition? (can you see a drive letter for ME?) are you seeing a boot loader to choose the OS when you turn your machine on? take a peek at disk management in XP....which partition is first? you should, for all intents and purposes, be able to format, or delete the partition. for any issues like the one you're encountering, I use partitionmagic. you can hide/unhide/resize partitions all with great ease. then if for some reason you weren't able to boot into xp, you'd just boot from the disk, go to the recovery console and type fixmbr (to fix the master boot record.) but if you don't have partiton magic, and all your data on that drive is expendable, then an option would be to delete all partitions and reinstall windows. that's a little more work than needed IMO though. |
The best thing to do is reformat. You never want to have remnants of the old operating system still left behind, because you may run into some problems in the long run.

as my old friend scott would say, "format flash the BIOS"
seriously though, I would just format the entire hard drive(s). reinstall XP. wham bam thank ya ma'am. |
