How do I fix this quicktime error?
Whenever i click on a quicktime video to play on WinXP I get this error:
There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive F: I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it but I keep getting the same error. Anyone know how to fix this? |
If this helps, sounds like a registry issue.
Search the registry for f: or quicktime. -SF |
Ya know, it's funny. I just dealt with this about 15 minutes ago.
For your current session... call up taskman and kill off qttask.exe To permanently do the job...it's regedit time... browse to HKLM - Software - Microsoft - Windows - CurrentVersion - Run Highlight the entry for qttask.exe and mash the Delete key as hard as you possibly can. QuickTime for Windows is one of the most braindead pieces of software ever written. It's mind-numbing when you compare it to how wonderfully the native Mac versions have always worked. There is no reason whatsoever why qttask should need to do whatever it is that it's trying to do when it encounters a Zip drive or similar device. BRAINDEAD! |
go to Apple.com and buy a G5. That'll solve your problem real good!

The problem happens with recent version of QT when you play an mov (or any other associated file) from that drive (for you it's F.) It polls the drive to see if it exists - you could theoretically put any disc into your F drive and quicktime will start working fine again - but that's a pain. I had the same problem a few weeks ago when I tested a new install by running an mov from a CD.

bzzt wrong. I have not inserted a zip cart in well over two weeks, and only installed quicktime on this machine about 3 days ago.
I was disgusted to also find out tonight that my registry "fix" didn't completely solve the problem. I opened freaking WINAMP and got the message about my stinking F: drive Like I said...QuickTime for Windows is a BRAINDEAD piece of software. Quote:
