RAM trouble

Had a horrible expereience today, my computer bluescreened and rebooted. It then appeard a errormessage that said that the computer had been reset because of a serious malfunction. So i send in the error-report to microsoft and the webbrowser pops up. It says it is likliest that it was a hardwaremalfunction in the memory.
So I download the RAM checker that microsoft linked me to, a simple small program that you boot up on and then let it run six different tests on the RAM. I ran it and found that in the final portion of the test that there was indeed a malfunction in the memory. instead of fdfdfdfd it returned bdfdfdfd or someting...
So I (don't laugh now I'm not that computer savy) assumed that since it was very late into the final test that the error occured that it was in the second memory stick in the computer that the error was in. SO I proceed to remove RAM stick no2 and then restart the memory checker. No errors.
Now I feel like experimenting a bit, and just to be sure that I picked the right memorystick, I remove stick no1 and insert stick no2 in slot no1. I boot up the memory checker and let it run through it's tests. Nothing, no errors..
That is why I'm writing this, I'm wondering,

Is it possible to have errors in the RAM that occur on a random basis or was it a glitch?

If there is an error in the memory shouldn't it occur every time it is checked or can it occur at a random?

Can it have had someting to do with the fact that I had a powerout just a few days ago while the computer was up and running?

Is it possible that there is someting wrong with the slots in the MB?

I'm pretty perplexed since I don't know that much a bout RAM and I'm sort of hoping that it was just a glitch since I'll probarbly have to buy new sticks if there is something wrong in them. Since I can't figure out which one is malfunctioning I'll have to replace both or the whole MB..

Someone help plz...

Do a seach for memtest86 and run those tests. They will give you a sector by sector accounting of your ram.

Thanx cthulu23, Your program found the error both when I had both of the memorysticks in and when I had only the one I suspected was defect in. Just to be sure I tested the other one aswell and it came out clear.
Very good program tip, Thanx again!
