cPanel, PLESK, Windows?
I'm looking to start my own basic web site and the one hosting service I'm looking at offers three different types of hosting plans: cPanel, PLESK and Windows. What does this mean? The cPanel plans seem to be the cheapest. 25MB of space with PLESK or Windows is the same price as 100MB with cPanel. What do I want?

I've seen packages that allow 500MB of diskspace and 2GB of x-fer bandwidth per month for as little as 30$ a year, with domain registration.
BTW, Cpanel, Plesk are types of html GUI server interfaces. They do alot of command-line stuff graphicially through html. -SF $50 a year gets you 500MB diskspace and 15GB x-fer per month. Subdomains, e-mail, ftp access included. http://www.web-hosting-ecommerce.net/ |

Speaking from a techsupport point of view, cpanel has the nicest integration into linux. The scripts are the best when trying to troubleshoot something. Windows is for playing games, not for doing actual work like serving web pages. A good example of this is environment variables, which as far as i'm aware require you to restart the <i>entire</i> machine to take effect. I hate troubleshooting a problem on one of those things. Give me a sendmail log anyday. Plesk isn't too bad, though I think at times it's a far bit too simplistic. Most plans you'll find using plesk are pretty much bare bones. CPanel you'll find more often on plans allowing some amount of power.

Do a quick search. I know there have been several threads about this recently with some very good info in them.
