Graphics Cards:
Ok, I was in PC world and looking at two graphics cards:
an overclocked fx5700 256Mb card, running at 465Mhz cannot remember the manufacturer and an fx 5900 128Mb card from Abit. Which would be better to buy? |
The 5900 has a much higher memory speed. The OC'ed 5700 would definitely kick some ass, but I still think the 5900 would be better with its much higher memory speed. The extra 128 MB on the 5700 doesn't mean anything, by the way.

Yeah I know, but its nice to have bigger numbers (except the price). The 5900 is probably the far better card comparing the specs online, but the OC'd 5700 is the same price so I was wondering why, perhaps it really is just a marketing ploy.

The entire videocard industry is a marketing ploy. :) I seriously wouldn't buy that 5700. A higher clock speed is good, but a lower memory speed is bad. It might be almost as good as the 5900, but even if it is, it's better to have a non-OC'ed card if they're the same price.
