Werd to the Wise: Clean Yer Filters

My 'puter was running around 53°C and I was wondering what was up. I ended up taking out the intake filters and they were totally clogged with dust. I cleaned them completely and now I'm running around 46-48°C.

i do it every now and then i also clean out my cpu fans and heatsink (mist silent twin). You will allways get dust in there, even with a filter.

I vacuumed out my old computer, and without the dust, I jumped from 448mhz to 453. It wasn't even that dirty, but the cooling on it was sub-par (Fuck you, Compaq)

Dragonlich, the CPU temp was 53°C. Case temp stayed about the same at 37°C.

That would vary insanely by the maker\clockrate of your peripherals.

There is no general "safe" area that applies to all hardware. For example the non XP Athlons routinely get much hotter than a more modern chip could withstand on a normal basis. I would try looking up the manufacturers specs or something if you are concerned.
