Question about Windows XP Upgrade
I looked over the board, and couldn't find an answer for my question.
So, I want to upgrade to Windows XP Professional, and figure I'd just get the upgrade version since it's cheaper. My question is, do I need my Windows 98SE disk when I'm installing Windows XP? I don't have the disk I used to put Windows 98SE on this computer, so if I need it, I guess I'll need to get the full version. |
Yep, you need the disk. I'd just buy a Windows XP Professional Full Version OEM from www.directron.com or www.newegg.com for $140.

As long as you have Windows 98 installed on the hard drive and you don't format first, you won't need the disk.
I do agree with Lasereth though, just buy the full OEM version. In the long run it just makes sense. |
When I upgraded from Win 95 to Win 98, I just bought the upgrade version. It was just an extra hassle to deal with.
Like everyone is saying, go with the full OEM version. |
Crap everyone has said it, go with the full version, also stick with the Pro, not the home version, I'm glad I did.

ditto.
ditto. ditto. and ditto. XP Pro Full. |
Go full OEM version and Pro if you can.

If you're a student, look around before you buy. Sometime you can get a better price.
I got my copy of XP pro for $7 and MS Office for $21 from my campus bookstore. |
