Windows Messanger & Windows 98
So I'm at my parents house on my old shitty Compaq with Windows 98... It's pop up hell. And from what I understand theres nothing you can do about Windows Messanger when you've got Windows 98. This true?

i may be wrong, but i'm prtety sure that win98 dosen't use the messenger service. have you done a spyware/adware check to make sure there aren't any malicious programs running in the background?

Yup, ran SpyBot. Still having pop up issues.

What is the home page set to? Alot of times it starts a window in the background that creates the pop-ups

Quick search says that that homepage is a symptom of CoolWebSearch, a nasty little piece of crap. You can get the removal tool here:

I think I had downloaded that, only to discover that Zip isn't installed. Or something. I'll look into it more when I go back home...

I swear, I should make a cd that has the following:
-Spybot: Search and Destroy -Adaware -AVG -Zone Alarm -A free archiving program I just had to do this with my fiancee's computer because they were having the same issues on their computer. A quick run of Adaware fixed'm right up, along with a scan with AVG and they were as good as new. |
