File Format Question: .mpc
Evening Everyone,
I just downloaded an album (Muse) using the invaluable Bit Torrent. When it finished downloading the files were in .mpc format. I Googled the format but all I could find where pages in different languages (German and French). I thought what I had to do was just change the c to a 3 to make it a .mp3 file but the new .mp3 file won't play in Winmap or WMP. What is this format and how can I play the tunes? Thanks for any help or info you can provide. Much appreciated. |
If you do a google search for ".mpc file extension" you get lots of English results:

While of course not condoning the downloading of music (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) you can find a Winamp plugin for mpc here:
http://www.saunalahti.fi/~cse/mpc/winamp/ I've been ripping CDs on occassion in mpc or ogg, it seems like you lose no quality whatsoever in the music in comparison to mp3, even VBR mp3s. You can really tell if you listen to them on a good sound system. |
Thanks for the links. I am listening to the songs as we speak. I was wondering if there was a to convert mpc files to mp3s. My extremely old Rio Riot won't support mpc files. I would very much to take them with me. Thanks

That has everything you need. Go to codec central to get the ability to convert using various codecs. |
SecretMethod,
Thank you so much. I have been looking for that tool, in some form or fashion, for years. I worked wonderfully and will receive much use. Thanks again. |
A second vote for dbpoweramp; it can transcode just about anything. The forums are very polite as well.
