Buddy can't access site without dialing LD
 

Here's a problem a buddy of mine is having on another board, and I figured here's a place to get him some help. The board is http://www.andersonlimited.com/forum, which I'm only posting here for possible IP purposes. Here is his problem, any advice would be appreciated:

This isn't fair!! I want on the board.

So I'm in KS for 4 days before I head to MO for the Malibu Meet. I'm dialing up with Earthlink here in the Wichita Area, and I can't get to the board. I'm actually dialing up long distance now to type this message. (I haven't been able to get XP to dial up with a calling card).

Anyways....Here's what I get.

It looks like I'm using the IP address ranges:
216.236.17.xxx
216.236.18.xxx

The numbers I've used:
216.236.18.9
216.236.18.55
216.236.17.236
216.236.18.222

I contacted Earthlink and they told me that everything was fine on their end, and that the problem is my computer...I know it is because I'm dialed up on their network.

So anyone know how I can fix this? I don't want to have to dial up long distance to get on this site, I don't want to have to switch ISP's here in KS. Is there any way to change the 'route' in which I go to this site? Try and get off of Earthlink's network?

Is your friend using the same Local Access Number he uses at home? If that's the case, all he needs to do is find a local access number that's in the same area code that he's in right now.
If he's doing that, and getting a long distance charge from using only certain websites, I have no idea what the problem could be.
I'd be very interested to find out if it's something different.

At the time you posted this message, it looks as if either the nlayer.net router, or the one after that is down.

Theoretically, it should have redirected you to another router to find the site.

I am not aware of any way around this as your first hop is to an earthlink router.

Yes and no...I have 4 servers set up with terminal services, but they were placed behind a couple of firewalls before I left, so no holes in place yet.

I might have means to create a VPN with my home network. Do you think that I could use that connection if I can establish the VPN?
