What screen saver do you use?

I'm currently running the Blue Screen of Death Screensaver:
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/fr...eensaver.shtml

What Screensaver are you running, and where did you get it?

Post screenshots if possible.

hrdwareguy 05-08-2003 02:07 PM

chodarama 05-08-2003 02:14 PM

I use the Marquee screen saver in windows and leave the default text, "Your text goes here," displayed.

pavel_lishin 05-08-2003 03:41 PM

I'm running Static TV screensaver, but I think I'll put the bluescreen on my parents' computer and watch them cry. :P

juanvaldes 05-08-2003 03:43 PM

I have mine play movies. :D

SecretMethod70 05-08-2003 04:17 PM

Normally I have no screensaver and just have the monitor power down after 20 minutes. However, at the moment I have a bit of a Matrix theme going (4 virtual desktops, a different character wallpaper on each) so I'm using the high resolution Matrix screensaver that came with KDE 3.1.1a - nice and crisp on my 1600x1200 resolution :D

After I see The Matrix: Reloaded a few times and decide to get rid of my Matrix theme I'll probably switch to the OpenGL screensavers that also came with KDE 3.1.1a - I just discovered them and they're pretty cool.

If I can figure out how to take a screenshot of the screensavers I'll post one.

None, waste of energy

heyal256 05-08-2003 07:37 PM

At home I just let the power save feature blank the monitor, at work I also use the Blue screen of death screensaver. It works grea especially when you work in tech support :)

ninety09 05-08-2003 08:38 PM

I use the 'My picture slideshow' one.

05-08-2003 08:48 PM

Good old starfield simulation. I can watch it for hours....
It there a laundromat dryer screensaver out there? That would be even better!

I bet you can just open a terminal and type in "sleep 10;import -window root test.png", then lock the screen and wait 10-15 seconds. :)

"import" comes with ImageMagick (http://www.imagemagick.org/). The coolest image utilities ever made.. well, when combined with NetPBM (http://netpbm.sf.net/) and The Gimp (http://www.gimp.org/). :)

oberon 05-08-2003 10:53 PM

I forgot to mention, I usually just use one of xlockmore (http://www.tux.org/~bagleyd/xlockmore.html), xscreensaver (http://www.jwz.org/xscreensaver/), or KDE's screensavers (http://www.kde.org/). In that order. I love xlock -mode grav or -mode random. :)

Antagony 05-09-2003 01:33 AM

Currently I'm running Marquee with the text "Don't be a fucking wuss."

I'm going to check out that StatcTV saver and I think the laundromat screensaver idea is genius. Someone should really make that.

Reese 05-09-2003 01:47 AM

I haven't found a suitable screensaver to fit my tastes. There have been a few that I was moderately interested in, but they were shareware and not really worth it to buy and not worth it use with the "buy me" banner that flys around..

wonderboy 05-09-2003 02:37 AM

That StaticTV one is pretty cool! Mine is a screensaver i got from Warner Bors. a great while back (hence no redirection) with a mini cartoon of The Tick. Funny.

TwoToTango 05-09-2003 05:39 AM

Maya Paint Effects from Alias Wavefront,
with the following settings:

preset 1 = jellyPlant2.mel
force 1 = Random Selection
preset 2 = None
force 2 = None
background = Dark
depth = On
speed = about 1/3 from the left
randomize preset = all the way left
clear time = about 1/20 from the left

Sometimes it's so pretty I hate to touch
the keyboard and get back to work.

At least that's the excuse I use.

BoCo 05-09-2003 06:51 AM

No screensaver here. I just set my monitor to turn off after an hour.

w00tn00b 05-09-2003 08:13 AM

If you like reading quotes, you might want to check out the <a href="http://www.geocities.com/SouthBeach/Lagoon/2324/download.html">Quote32</a> screen saver. It is what I currently use. I enjoy sitting and reading the quotes. Then only thing that sucks about it is the guy who made the thing allowed anyone to submit quotes. This has lead to a lot of stupid computer sayings and puns that I would not really consider quotes. You can edit the list of quotes it displays, but since there are like 15,000 I have never got around to doing it.

BigJonnyJ 05-09-2003 08:41 AM

Good ole' blank screen. If I'm not working on it, it might as well be off.

moosey 05-09-2003 09:31 AM

Most of the time its just the Blank Screen, but right now its a Fight Club one.

merkerguitars 05-09-2003 12:51 PM

No screen saver here either........just let it turn off after 15 minutes and when I go to bed i just turn it off manually.

Mister B 05-09-2003 01:34 PM

I have a spinning bottle of budweiser.

Yeah, I'm in college.

The_Dude 05-09-2003 03:20 PM

none, i had 'em all

charliex 05-09-2003 04:27 PM

http://www.cutemonkeys.com/ss.jpg

screenshot doesn't do it justice, its a windows swirly particle system, morphing tubey thing, its called helios, you need a fairly powerful gfx card to get its full mojo going on.

charliex 05-09-2003 05:05 PM

incidently you can download it at http://www.reallyslick.com/ or you can grab my modified version at http://www.cutemonkeys.com/helios.zip theres linux versions and mac versions too i believe.

poof 05-09-2003 05:27 PM

Running no screen saver here. No need. As far as background graphics, many ways to get high resolution stuff. BoCo offers some snazzy pics, or you could check out some links for Hi-res graphics.

You could sweat it and look for the stuff, or, just check, <a href= "http://tfproject.org/tfp/showthread.php?s=&threadid=709">BoCo</a> daily. He puts many hours of scouring links to share quality product.

monster 05-09-2003 07:04 PM

i don't use a screen saver. my monitor goes into standby after 15 minutes and if i know i'm going to be away from it for that long i hit the power button. i don't need pretty colors flashing on my monitor so i can pay extra for the electricity.

duckduck 05-10-2003 10:30 AM

The good ole' power button. When I'm not using my comp, it's pretty much time to power it down ;)

strife 05-10-2003 05:44 PM

My monitor turns off after three minutes of being idle...otherwise my laptop has whirr and whirr and whirr to keep the screen saver running.

Blank screen for me!

kenshee 05-10-2003 07:00 PM

I also turn off the monitor when not in use.

MSD 05-10-2003 09:23 PM

Windows crashes when the screensaver loads, nothing here.

Antagony 05-11-2003 02:55 PM

Yeah, I tried the StaticTV screensaver. It crashes my computer.

uber1 05-11-2003 07:17 PM

just the basic windows text one. very boring. :(

KBilly 05-11-2003 11:53 PM

I had a 3D Matrix one, but with a slow computer, it's no fun watching the text go down the screen slower than I thought possible. I've recently been using this goldfish screensaver. http://www.lifeglobe.com/product/Goldfish/index.php

danjo328 05-12-2003 10:28 PM

Monitor goes off after 10 minutes (LCD screen, so it comes back real fast when I need it)

sngx1275 05-13-2003 12:40 AM

The XP logo. lol, trying that helios one now though

blindawg 05-13-2003 07:47 AM

Screen savers are the work of the devi.. I have more issue on PCs at work because of "installed" screen savers then anything else. OK not really, but they seem to cause more problems then they are worth. Even some of the MS ones cause issues.. I just have the screen go blank, then to sleep after 30 minutes
