Upgrading 2003 Server to full + SQL Svr
This is more a warning than anything else, for all you who run the Windows 2003 Server trial and Microsoft SQL Server:
We were running the trial of Windows 2003 Server at work. The trial was running out and we had good results with it, so we decided to upgrade to 2003 Server pro. After the upgrade, which was run from the CD (appears to be forced that way), Microsoft SQL Server deleted all our databases except for the demo database. Has anyone else run into this, or know a way to recover those files? |

hmmmmmm, I've never tried upgrading a trial version of Microsoft software to the full version. Did you make a backup of your SQL databases before you ran the upgrade? If not I think you just learned a valuble IT lesson. Always back stuff up before running any kind of patch or upgrade on it.

The trial version of Windows 2003 had expired... We couldn't get in to make a backup. Right when trying to login to windows it would say that the key is expired and that you'd have to install the full version update and would take you back to the login window.
We didn't lose much, as it was only there as a test box with 1 app running on it so it's not a big deal in all... Just wanted to let everyone know my run-ins with this so they don't do the same thing. |
