[SQL] permissions, or lack there of.

ok so i messed some things up seriously wiht my SQL server, i was changing the permissions (to get IIS up and running properly) and i removed the a user that needed to be there and when i try to start the server it says access denied, how can i fix this, or am i compleatly screwed. it does not contain much info and is not a nessesity to get back, but it would save me a lot of time.

thanks

If you accidentally just deleted the user (how'd you accomplish that? Did you delete the user, or the whole user table?) regrant them the permissions.

PHP Code:

grant all <put all the permissions hereon <databasename>.<tablenameTO <user you deleted>@<host where they should be connecting fromIDENTIFIED BY "password"

For myself on my MySQL server, I'd do
PHP Code:

GRANT ALL ON mud.* TO fallon@localhost IDENTIFIED BY "temp123"

not on a data base, but the entire server.

i removed a user (the wrong user) from the users part of the data base. i ment to do the IIS one but removed the wrong one.

k, then do
PHP Code:

GRANT ALL ON *.* TO <user>@<hostIDENTIFIED BY "temp123"

Just be careful though because if you give them all the permissions, you know what can happen.

where can i run this command, i cant even get the server started.

What environment are you running it in. I'm assuming you're running it in Windows cause you said IIS.
What SQL server are you running, MS SQL or MySQL?
if you are running MS SQL, gonna need someone elses help, if it's MySQL then just check the config and restart the server.

thanks fallon, im running ms sql

im just going to uninstall it all and re install it. it will be much easier, the data is not important.

Ahh, that's no fun =p
Why go the easy way when you can try to learn it.

I'm also restraining myself not sayin you should try MySQL...=p

ok i finaly got it:

i copyied the 2 data base files and moved them from the directory, then i removed ms SQL server, reinstalled it, removed all the servers, created new server, created a data base named the same, halted the server, switched the files, and restarted the server.

and it works fine now.

Holy crap...
Woah...
I woulda just gotten a visual program to create a backup of the server and store a copy on the comp, reinstalled if you had to or just created a new user via the visual program and then restored the backup...

Dilbert1234567 05-17-2004 07:26 PM

i could not even start the server to back it up.
