According to ign.com we can look for a release date around the end of April, something like April 26. I have no idea what that means for the card manufacturers though.

I have only a passing interest in this stuff compared to Lazereth and I the fact that HE is excited makes me know this is something great. I love technology and I rely on him to help me seperate the wheat from the chaff. Different people have different areas of expertise and Lazereth is the one person that if I was doing a word association thing and the word "Video Card" came up, I would say Lazereth and the Psrink would say "huh?" Quite cool!

Man, if I see another owned picture on the Internet that doesn't make sense, then I'll scream. People are starting to use it in the wrong context. A kitten can't help but be crammed into a glass, so he wasn't "owned," he was simply crammed into a glass.
Anyway, if I didn't get shorthanded on loans this year and have to pay for my tuition myself, then I'd definitely be getting that 6800. But, as my luck usually goes, I have to cough up $1250 with a part-time job this summer to make it back to ASU. Hopefully I'll have enough to get a Radeon 9800 Pro and new mobo and processor, but that's doubtful. -Lasereth

How does the new Radeon X series stack up to this?

x800 is a good card
6800 is a better card 6800 and x800 have very similar performances 6800 has newer technology and architecture. Both cards perform really well in all current games. If you wanna run far cry at 1600/1200 8xFSAA and 8x Anso you might still be chuging along, but for the normal user who doesn't care if he's getting 190fps or 180fps in his game both cards are good, but since they're both the same price and most everybody has extra pci slots these days due to motherboard integration of RAID LAN SOUND multi-USB I'm sure you have enough slots for the 6800 to take up one. Then again i'm thinking that 350watt psu on a system that doesn't have a lot of components would be sufficient, but if you're running 10000 rpm hard drives and a o/ced cpu you might want to go 400+

480W is the recommended PSU if you want one of these bad asses in your rig.
I know some of you think it's sad for someone to upgrade to one of these cards at the price they're at but look at me, I'm on a Leadtek GeForce FX5900 Ultra (256MB) and I'm gonna get the 6800/6850. Now that's sad. |

Release date?
Newegg has nothing for the 6800 but they already have the X800 out.
