New stereo set up (with lame pics!!)

Anways. I had a nice big ole Stereo amp and speakers that I picked up for a song a few years ago (calm down audiophiles, It's only a Sony). Since getting the new HD, I've ripped about 50 albums and encoded them using EAC + lame.

I hadn't had the chance to reconfigure so up until now I've had everything just bunched all around the computer. I didn't think to take pics until halfway through this project so here's a crude photoshop representation with meerkats where the speakers used to be. The stereo amp basically halved my workspace:

The meerkats are symbolic of the sound quality when you have everything bunched up in one place - wild and probably smelly. I didn't like that one on the left being so close to my beer either.

We found some great old wallmounts in the storeroom - ball joint and everything. Our el cheapo hammerdrill made short work of the masonry (top down view):

Testes...testes...one, two...THREE?

Ran a 3.5mm stereo plug from the case through a 6m extension to an RCA adapter and into the RCA sockets in the amplifier. Set up works nicely - amazed I had all the parts and adapters lying in drawers all over the house..

The stereo's new home all the way on the other side of the room - pretty much in the middle of the two newly mounted speakers. Sounding very nice aside from all the book shelves I had to evict into ghetto-like boxes.:

And the desk, newly free from ALL audio equipment (and small African mammals):

i think this is great work.
imo, the less clutter on the desk, and esp. beneath it, the better.

interesting to hear how different the sound effects are changed with the new positioning.

excellent room mod, and even more excellent narrative...do you have a website, or write anything else, or are you just funny accidently? Reminds me of Penny Arcade...

Now that's entertainment! What a good post. That's the tradeoff with computers and audio, though, which kind of sucks.

Next time you get the inking to have the audio in front of you instead of behind you (like in an old Chevy Nova with radical 6x9's in the rear deck) you might think about pulling your desk out from the wall a foot and put your speakers back on your desk leaning against the back wall. yeah, pens and pencils will obviously roll off the back and get lost in the dustballs, but your speakers will be in front of you. Yay!
