Help me with a web cam problem...
I bought this web cam but it has a problem with some sort of driver signing.. Apparently the webcam and my Windows XP dont like each other.....
does anyone know if I can download this "driver signing" or somehow cheat the XP system into accepting the new hardware (webcam)???? Thanks slim |
What type of Webcam did you purchase? I find it odd that XP would have a problem with any of the basic webcams out there.
|
Did you try and install the driver anyway? Just because a driver isn't signed doesn't mean that it won't work. It just hasn't been tested by microsoft yet.
|
well, it wouldnt ask me, would you still like to install it, it was basically like, nope, no soup for you, no driver signing, good bye....
I read somehwere I can tell my computer to just down right have it ignore driver signings :) working on how to do that right now though, lol. |
Try this.
Goto the control panel and open "Administrative tools", then open "Local Security Settings". Under "Local Policies\Security Options" look for "Devices: Unsigned Driver Installation behavior" and set it to "Warn but allow installation" That should do it. |
apparently now the damn thing is installed but a pitch black thing comes out as the image, anyone know or seen this before? :(
|
what are you using to view the camera? original software, or something like yahoo messenger?
afaik yim requires vfw. |
It normally happens when the software tries to use a capture device other than the camera. Look in the options for your program under capture device and make sure it's set to your camera.
Also, since you have WinXP; in the My Computer folder double-click on the icon of your camera. A small video window should pop up in a new folder. Is it still black or is there a picture? If it works then your camera program is configured wrong, otherwise it's probably the drivers. In any case a look at the camera's website for the latest drivers wouldn't hurt. |
