				CPU Heating Troubles
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro CPU: AMD XP3000+ OC'd to XP32000+ speeds Heatsink: ThermalTake Volcano 12+ Here's the deal: Sixate and I have the very same motherboard and CPU, both OD'd to the very same clock speed (2.195GHz), but mine runs about 15°C hotter than his. We also have nearly the same case, as well as four 7,200RPM WD hard drives. He has a different heatsink (copper, just like mine), but with a similar high-speed fan. We both run our CPU fans so low you can't hear them, but even with mine at full blast in a room that's ~75°F, my CPU still registers in at 54-58°C. With my window open and really cold air coming in, I can't even get below 50°C. However, he usually runs around the low 40's. I recently put new Arctic Silver 5 on the chip and re-installed the heatsink, and I even have ducting to the rear of the case where I suck in room-temperature air, but my temps haven't changed at all. Does anyone have a clue as to what's going on here? Could I merely have a bad temp sensor on my mobo or is something else going on?

| Psycho | 60c is probably the most you want to keep it at. Maybe 70c if you have your motherboard to shut down at that point. For BoCo's problem I really think that is a bad temperature sensor. A duct from the HS to the back of the case should decrease the temperature quite a lot I here. Even with that duct you should be able to get a noticeably lower level. |

| Devils Cabana Boy Location: Central Coast CA | difrent batches have difrent heat, they chips may be the 'same' but they came from a difrent batch and that can change everything. further his ambient temp may be cooler, i loose 5C at night, and 10C if i have my window open at night.

But the temperature hasn't been all that different in the 2 places to make such a huge difference in CPU temps. Even when it's hot in my apartment and gaming my temp never reaches 50°C. And sometimes when I wake up in the morning it's been a little under 40°C. I always run my heatsink fan as low as possible to keep down the noise. | |
