I think the board consensus is an Abit NF7-S mobo. It has pretty good onboard sound so you can scrap the Audigy. The case is nice but don't forget to get fans/heat sink/grease. The Thermalright Slk-900A is a sweet heatsink and arctic silver is a good grease. The fans should be Panaflo's, 5 for the case and one for the heatsink.
NF7-S: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...127-166&depa=0 Heatsink: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...109-011&depa=0 Dunno where you will find panaflo's, newegg only sells 92mm. Edit: I thought you were building a new comp and those were the piece already bought for a new comp. I agree with Jake and Laserth on this one. |
One question: if you're gonna keep the Athlon XP for now, and then upgrade to an Athlon 64 at Christmas time, what do you need a better motherboard for? If you do buy a new one, you'll have to ditch it for the Athlon 64 this Christmas (they require a new mobo). Unless you're gonna upgrade to a better Athlon XP, there's no reason to get a new mobo!

There's no reason to buy a better one if you are just gonna go the way of the Athlon 64! You'll be buying a new one for the 64 as well! I'd keep the current one until you want to go for the Athlon 64, then upgrade the motherboard and processor in one swift motion!
