i've done that to clean my laptop monitor, and it didn't hurt it, but i also know that there are cloth type wipes out there that you can buy at the computer store specifically for that purpose. i would definatly turn off the comp. before spraying it though.

Best thing is some kind of anti-static spray and a cloth that won't leave particles behind. i.e. no Klenix or toilet paper.

The best thing I have used is endust for electronics spray.

Do not use windex, it contains ammonia which while overdry the surface of the LCD and eventually it will cause the coating of the LCD to crack and smear, maybe even the first time you use it.

Avoid most household cleaners, since they'll contain either ammonia or alcohol, unless its isopropyl alcohol.

a quick mix to use is 3 parts *distilled* water to one part isopropyl alcohol, then use a soft lint free cloth to clean it, same as the type used for cleaning eyeglasses, regular cloths will either lightly scratch the surface or leave lint behind.

just make sure that you do not apply any liquid directly to the screen... if it drips down in the case it will make a mess of your inverter board and even the LCD itself.

always apply to cloth then wipe

I use lighter fluid on a soft cloth (apply to cloth, not screen)

It cleans to the squeak and don't leave no streaks.

ShadowWraith 05-21-2003 09:31 AM

haha, how do u take the narsty smell that comes with it jwoody?

heyal256 05-21-2003 07:15 PM

I think that i can see how lighter fluid would make a good cleaner, but with the amount of static/electricity/heat from a laptop i would be worried if I over did it and the fumes somehow caught on fire.

Personally, I would recommend the wipes specifically made for lcd screens (read the label on some of the monitor wipes, most of them specifically state that it should NOT be used on lcd screens)
