base-64 & uu-encoder/decoder?

i was given a 20+MB text file at work with an archive of some emails from some years ago. i was asked to recover some of the data and all the attachments which are primarily encrypted (?).

the text of file shows that the attachments are either base-64 or uuencoded.

i tried to find an encoder/decoder on google, but a lot of the pages are dead or the programs don't work in XP.

anyone know of a good (FREE) program (preferrably NOT a command-line program) that'll work in XP or at least win98? ideally i'd like to NOT have to copy the coded text out into a separate file to separate it from the readable regular email text, but if i have to, i have to....

thanks much.

Have you tried using compatiblity mode in XP on one of the old programs?

no, i haven't.

i've downloaded three or four so far that were written for win95 or DOS. when i launch the .exe, it usually just opens and closes the ms-dos command screen and then nothing happens.

i tried using one within the command console, but due to a lack of instructions, i really didn't get anywhere....

This one has a readme with CLI switches you can use

http://www.spherical-bytes.com/files/bin/uudec111.zip

I couldn't test it as I had no such file so I hope it works for you.

i know u don't fancy command line stuff....BUT...

go to start-> run-> and type "cmd"
from there attempt to navigate to the folder in which the program you downloaded was installed, then try type filename.exe

this may help

surprisingly, cmd > filename.exe didn't work either in a previous try... it actually started to do something then just shut down the command window.

i'll give that other program a try.

thanks!
