Power Supply Question

Greetings All,
Does anyone know where I can find a power supply without a on/off switch? (An odd question, I know) Dell, in their infinite wisdom, only gave me a 250W psu. I have a 2.6HT, 1.25GB 3200 RAM, 2 Maxtor 160GB HD's, two DVD drives (one of them is a DVD-burner) and I would very much like to upgrade my graphics card to a ati 9800 in the very near future. I need a new psu now especially if I get the ati card. The problem is, of course, Dell. The case they gave me can't accomdate a psu with a on/off switch (there is only a slot for the power cord). I ordered a new psu from newegg.com (Thermaltake Purepower 420W) but only to find out about the problem with the on/off switch. Does anyone know of a power supply without an on/off switch? Does anyone manufacture one? Thanks for any help, info, tips, etc. Thanks and cheers.

Pretty sure this one has no power switch. Would a Dremel be an option?

Another Silly Question:
Is there anything that says that the power supply has to be inside the case? Until I can get a new case (that Dremel idea has got me thinking too) can I set the power supply on the case? Thanks

Yes you can. I am actually being forced to do this because of Dell ingenious designs...

I've generally only seen them in a little makeshift box under the case which has holes all over it for air intake.

Sparkle Power Supplies do not have on/off switches. I used one for a while. They are used in hospitals and medical centers around the world for their reliability and quietness. Not too expensive, but more expensive that those shitty RAIDMAX or POWMAX jokes.

Check your local vendor for these PSUs, or just order one from a reseller.

Wow, it looks like (in the pictures at least) that these beasts have switches. Mine (I still have it, it's laying right here) most certainly does NOT have a power switch. Who knows.

Ok, I checked newegg.com, and it looks like some come with a switch and some don't. I'd just pick one that doesn't have one.

I recommend this one.

I should read earlier posts more :) Same link.

Ah well you win some you lose some. Just further backing what SilverBrain said. I have personal experience with these PSUs, though, and I can say that they are definitely worth the money.

Thanks for the links and info but unfortuantely even though the Sparkle psu's don't have an on/off switch they are exactly in the same position as if they did. In the Sparkle link provided if you looked at where the plug input is, it would have to be placed higher to work in the case Dell gave me. Thanks though for the thoughts and suggestions. Cheers

If I were you, then, I would seriously bust out the dremel :)

Drill a freakin' hole in the case for the switch.

Do you still have the original Dell mobo? If so, are you sure a third-party supply will be compatible?

Some Dell boards use non-ATX-standard power supply harnesses.
