I will never go back to CompUSA
Why do I even go there to begin with? Their prices are sometimes better than some other places but their return policy is just retarded.
They used to have a better computer magazine section than any store and I'd go there while my ex went shopping in the same mini-mall. Today I brought a Samsung printer back to try to get it fixed but they said "We don't fix Samsung printers"... You know -if this was an isolated case of them not having a service, product or policy that I don't like -I would be back. But this is the final straw. Besides there's a best buy and like two other computer stores across the street. Nuff said... Never again CompUSA. |
i vote with my wallet.
i go where the prices are cheapest and the service is fast. i'm not interested in repairing technology because it's usually cheaper to just replace it. |
I too used to hit CompUSA up for the mag section, the variety of things to browse and see, but then the Internet spread its wings and as Cynthitiq says, my wallet told me where to go. Printers, inkjet, are almost always worth replacing rather then repair in my experience.

Even worse than not buying anything there, use them for their resources. Go in there and kick the tires on anything you want to buy and then buy it online. CompUSA = The Jerk Store.
100ft of Cat5 Cable for almost $100 bucks? Eat my ass, I'll build my own. I tought myself to fish and went to Home Depot. I now have all the cable I will ever need and I still have not spent $100 including all the tools. |
Yeah theyre pretty expensive.
Cheapest floppy drive is like $15, newegg has them for like $4.. |
Perfect example of CompUSA's bloated prices: 256mb PC 3200 RAM ~ $75, 512 ~ &149. Newegg sells good 512mb PC 3200 RAM for around the same price CompUSA sells the 256mb.

I envy you. Where I live all we have is one Best Buy. We have a total of 2 in the state. No Circuit City, no Comp USA.
|
i've found that comp usa's cost on items is usually higher than best buy's retail price. Whoever's negotiating prices for CompUSA's buyers is a moron.
|
Well the compUSA's in my area do have a nice selection of parts....they mark some of their shit up alot....then again where the nearest compUSA is around me it's more of a "rich" person store.
|
Compusas have the worst customer service ever. The only way to get service there is to make a scene. I usually go to Circuit City when I really need something or buy my computer stuff online through Newegg.
|
I cant stand them because of the damn fuck bags they have working there, I bought a nice, quiet, solid 120mm fan for $14 and the guy tried to sell me a $19.99 replacement plan on it, in case it breaks, I bring it in and get a new one for a $5 profit!

The retail pc store i miss the most is Microcenter, But I liked one of the samall shops from Columbus better, they would compete with pricewatches prices but would get good service and it was only like a mile away from where i lived.... |

those guys at Best Buy are that bad too. they offer you the service plan for anything you buy. there is this one guy at the local Best Buy that ALWAYS offers you a service plan, and starts making up stories about how you need it. We call him "Service Plan Johnny."
I was buying my subwoofers and bandpass subwoofer box once at Best Buy, and the Service Plan Johnny said that we should get the service plan on each subwoofer because "you never know man, someone might knife your subs while you are gone." Bandpass box enclosures have plexiglass on top of the subwoofers. I'd like to see someone put a switch blade through 3" of plexiglass! He is there every time, I wouldn't be surprised if he offered us a service plan for a DVD or something |
take it easy on them, shame on you for going there in the first place. i wouldn't be able to fix a samsung printer... you can't just assume they fix everything, samsung printers are tough man. tough.

I stopped shopping at CompUSA in Manhatten because they started this "check your bags" policy. I usually put up with this type of policy but the big brains at this location never have more than 1 person checking/returning bags.
Like I really want to wait an extra 10 minutes in your lousy store to spend too much money on a "need it now" part or game. Bah. |
I wouldn't mind their prices if they had decent service, but they are about the worst store I have ever shopped at. Typically one register open, and they ring stuff up like it's the first time they ever sold something to a customer. You can be second on line and still wait 20 minutes.

I once had to decide between a GeForce 2 GTS and a 3dfx Voodoo 5 at compUSA. I asked one of the guys working their for his opinion. He told me that the Voodoo had more colors. I politely thanked him and quickly distanced myself from him. Now I won't even ask those people what time it is. (Bought the GeForce, btw. LOL Good choice)

i dont know about compusa but i have to pass on office max.
couple weeks back sunday morning at work i see in their ad in the paper an 80 gig WD 7200 hdd for $19.99 after a few rebates. im thinking sweet and check to see what time they open, 11am i leave work early and get there at 5 after 11 only to find about 12 people all in the aisle bitching because they are sold out already!!! 5 farkking minutes after they open sold out of something as hot as this. now granted i work retail and now that supplies are limited reserved quantities etc etc etc, but let me sell out of something 5 minutes after opening the day the ad begins and i bet im not in business long |
I stopped shopping at CompUSA for the same reason on their Return Policy. I bought some backup software there for my new pc. Little did I know it wasn't compatable with my burner. So I take it back the manager and I get in a fight about it. They said they would only give me store credit. There was no way I was going to spend 70 bucks there. So the manager makes a deal with me, if I brought in my computer and they installed the software and it didn't work, they would give me a full cash refund. She didn't expect me to come back, but sure enough I brought my computer in. She takes one look at me and says, "fuck it here's your money." I sure showed her, and now I just go to Best Buy. I have never had a problem there...

The CompUSA in my area rocks. Best Buy is horrible. It all depends on the area you live in.

pricewatch. That's all you need. you know what you want, why go to some retail store that's going to overcharge you, only have 1 chekout open (yea, I've stood there), and a return policy that basically says: " We have your money, ha ha!"

If you want to buy online, do it at NewEgg, Directron, or a company that has a TON of reviews and is still at a high rating on Reseller Ratings. -Lasereth |
Nothing wrong with Pricewatch at all--just check the store you're buying from as mentioned in the previous post. Some resellers only get you a low rate when you mention pricewatch. Even newegg does this, I believe.
On another note, I too vote with my wallet, and just voted on 2 separate occasions--1 120 gig seagate 8mb cache drive for 50 dollars after rebate, and another 120 gig drive (maxtor) for 60 after rebate (8 mb cache). Can't beat that at newegg, and I got my rebates fairly quickly. Of course you'd be a 'bleepin' moron to pay full price on something at Comp USA. No, I'm not gonna spend 195 dollars on a GeForce 5600 because its "one of the fastest cards out there". I buy cheap hd's at compusa, ghetto cheep mobo/cpu combos at fry's (80 bucks for 2500+ and mobo... you gotta be kidding me!), refurb'd graphics cards from newegg (60 dollar Ti4200--hell yeah!), ram from newegg (they're good with rma's, and ram NEEDS to be rma'd a lot), solid cheap cases from fry's (I'm not paying' 15$ shipping on a case--whats the point). Doing this I was able to put together a solid computer for pretty cheap--I now have a mobile 2400 running at 2.5 ghz on air w/ a quiet fan (volt modded tornado at 5v) on 1.8v. It owns all directX 8 games, and a year from now I'll have my hands on a radeon 9800 or GeForce 5900 for 60 bucks, flash the bios, and play the latest games for cheap. Why pay more when you can pay less? |
