Recommend a printer!
I need a printer that prints both great photos and black & white/color. I don't want an Epson because I have gone through several epsons printers, all of which have gone in the trash because they either got clogged or stopped working. I want one preferably with a removable print head for easy cleaning and replacement. Any recommendations?

The Canon series comes to mind. It has a feature called the "Think Tank System" where each color is in separate tanks. The cartridges are cheap and you only need to replace the colors that are gone, not the entire color cartridge since they are separate.
The printheads are also removable and they don't get clogged up easily like Epson printers when not used for a while. Photos look awesome as well. I have an Canon S600 which is a pretty good printer. Absolutely no problems at all and color photos look very nice on it. Text is just as good too. Very crisp. Depending on your budget, I would look at something like the Canon i850 model. |
I have a HP deskjet 920c. I was initially very happy with it. Photos looked great and the speed was good. But recently it has started acting up. Whenever a page is done printing it is supposed to drop the page and pull in the next one. It now seems to have a problem with droping the printed page and then tells me there is a paper jam.
I wouldn't recommend that particular model. |

I own both a Canon i950 and a S750, if you wanted one that printed both great Photos and had a good sized Black ink tank, look into a i860, there very nice printers. I love my i950, its just amazing for quality, and the s750 is great as long as your only using the photos for home use / family wide.

Did you know that you can soak that Epson printer by injecting rubbing alcohol into the ink chambers and they will unclog....I have been refilling and reloading for years on my Epson 860.
I believe you will find that only Epson and Canon have the print heads down in the machine---the others have the print head in the bottom of the cartrige.. |

HP printers have always served me well. I have the hpdeskjet 5550. I have had it a year and have not had to replace the cartridges yet (I print daily)
I have had trouble with EPSON.(ink ran out too fast) Heres the TechTV review (4/5 stars) i guess thats good? http://www.techtv.com/freshgear/prod...397129,00.html Heres the HP page with the specs (only $99) (i got mine for 120$). http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en...897-74615.html |
I my self prefer Epson Stylus series, or HP Deskjets.
I've only had problems with Lexmarks. |
I can't really tell you what to get, but i CAN tell you what NOT to get. and that is Lexmark. I've had 3 of them, and they all use an insane amount of ink, are unreliable, never work properly, and are just in general, big paperweights.
I am w/ Destrox, stay away from Lexmark! |
i dunno. Believe it or not I'm quite happy with the Lexmark Z53 I got for my birthday awhile back. It prints very nicely in b/w and color, and does photos quite well. It doesn't guzzle ink, and it's FAST as hell. Sucker will print 12ppm in black and white.

I've got a Epson c80 and a HP 7760.
IMHO, the epson was a great photo printer, after years of abuse and tens of thousands of pages it still does a great job with text and light graphics. (have to align it often) The HP 7760 does better on photos than my local photo-lab. There are many different kinds of printer carts, and the heads are in the carts. You'd be suprised how long the ink lasts in the 7760! I've printed super-saturated 8x10's, darn near 35 of them and I'm not even half way through the carts!!!! On top of that, the 7760 auto-aligns and calibrates itself at the beginning of the print. You almost-never have to calibrate it manually! AND.. it had an LCD screen, for PC-less prints. -SF |
Yes I tried that but no dice. Are Canon print heads easy to get out?
----don't even think about it...I opened up an Epson one time...man that shit is delicate...trashed it real quick.... |
Unlike epso, you can replace the print heads in a Canon printer, but you wont need to do it often. I have used my i950 now for a year, and I have went through around 5-6 of each ink tank, it still runs like a dream. As long as you print regularly you should be fine, its when you dont print for a month that you run into trouble.

I've found that Lexmarks are hit or miss...the cheapie ones suck down ink like mad, but for a while, it was literally cheaper to get a new printer (with cartridges included) than it was to buy new cartridges!!!
Anyway, I have a Z53, too, and I'm happy. It's not photo-realistic, or anything though. MPEDrummer |

It doesn't really matter. I've gone through periods where I didn't use my Canon S600 for more than a month. All you need to do is one Deep Cleaning and everything works perfectly fine after that. No clogs at all. |
