P4 labeled power supply work for AMD? .. and check out my new system!
My bro just bought a case from fry's. Its an X-Sonic ATXa4KW w/ a 350 watt power supply that's labeled as a p4 supply. Web site lists it as p4 also. I'm still waiting for the motherboard in the mail, so can you guys tell me if it'll work for amd or if he should return it and get another case/supply. Case seems pretty bad-assed in general, with plenty of airflow possibilities.

That's what I figured. I'm just hoping the PS isn't a PoS, if you know what I mean.
Here's what I'm sticking in it. Abit NFS-7 rev 2 mobo - 95 bucks Athlon 2400+ mobile processor (2500+ are sold out at newegg). 2400+ comes unlocked, like all of the mobiles. - 80 bucks Thermalright SLK 947-U - 40 bucks Vantec Tornado 92mm Double Ball bearing CPU cooling fan - 10 bucks Geil Golden Dragon Value Series x 2 256 mb pc3200 sticks 2.5-8-4-4 - 88$ WD 120 Gig 8 mb hd 7200rpm - 37 bucks after 85$ rebate X-Sonic ATXa4kw case w/ 350 watt power supply and 3 case fans - 60 bucks Netgear 802.11b wireless router - 10 bucks after 30$ rebate I am gonna overclock the shit outta this mobile processor. It ain't even gonna be funny (assuming the Abit board works ok with the geil ram) Most stuff I'm buying off newegg, and most has free shipping. I DO have to pay sales tax. I am still looking to purchase a GeForce Ti4200 and I am gonna overclock it too. I want the 64 mb model becasue its fast, and I'm gonna get one for 90 bucks or thereabouts. Grand total after vid-card--about 510 or so. Plus I still need to pick up a PCI wireless card soon. Hopefully for 10 bucks after rebate. Last edited by cheesemoney; 02-15-2004 at 11:31 PM.. |

With that Heatsink/fan combo I think you'll be able to run OCed at a pretty reasonable temperature. But that 100+ CFM... has to lead to a headache eventually after prolonged periods of use.
Thats for posting the list too. I was looking at building something around that price range. Gives me an idea of where I can start. |

Yeah, if its too loud i'm gonna order a fan controller for 17 bucks. And the Mobile processor is unlocked so it should be able to get some real high speeds at low temps, since it doesn't require as much voltage.
