Asus KT600. How does it measure up?
I was thinking about starting off with a Asus A7V8X-X Socket A motherboard and pairing it with either an AMD Athlon XP 3000+ "Barton", 400 FSB, 512K Cache Processor or a AMD Athlon XP 2500+ "Barton", 333 FSB, 512K Cache Processor .
I have a few questions... What is the difference between the 64-bit and the 32-bit processors? And what are some opinions about the motherboard CPU combo I have chosen versus other combos? Id like to spend under 800 to build the whole thing and itll be used for gaming and video/audio editing.

The consensus here is to get the Abit NF7-S instead... if you are gonna overclock that 2500+ to 3200+ speeds to save money.
I know that Asus makes good boards, and I've used em and never had any trouble (never had trouble with Abit either), but based on the extensive reviews I've done building my new computer I can't see why you would go w/ the Asus over the Abit board. As for the 64bit vs. 32bit, I assume that the 64 bit makes use of 64 bit registers and instructions. Remember, w/ the 386 they introduced extended registers that could hold 32 bits, but the sx version cheated and sent info in 16 bits 2x (is that right?--memory's fuzzy). 64 bit isn't gonna help you in 32 bit xp, but they do have a *gasp* experimental version of windows that you can dl and beta test. |

I'd go with the 64 bit 3000-3200, if you could afford it Last edited by VF19; 02-13-2004 at 04:03 PM.. |
