getting rid of cookies and such
 

I was browsing some movies on the TB, and now when I type an adress in to the adress bar, it drops down a list of sites (probobly the host of the movies) which may offend the general public (this is not on my computer) I've tried to make them go away, but like a bad cold, they just won't. Any suggestions?

go to tool, internet options....here on the general page click delete cookies, then choose delete files, then choose clear history, then click on privacy and choose edit then remove all and click ok, then choose the content tab and click on auto complete, choose clear forms and clear passwords. click ok, and then ok. congradulations, there are no more instances of where you browsed.

If you use internet explorer you may have to clear the cache, cookies, and history. In the past there was a bug that wouldn't allow you to keep no history properly and would always bring back the sites visited that day. This seems fixed in recent versions.

I like me some some cookies.

I cleared cookies, deleted files, cleared history before, and all other history was gone, but I think this one is sneaky, this IE doesn't have 'clear all' on privacy. is there any more info on that bug?

**Edit, did everything that tenchi069 said, and still they are there. I turned off autocomplete for webpages as a temporary fix, but it makes it look even more suspicious. Also, it does not show up in the dropdown bar when it is on some other site, only when you type the first letter, which is 'm'. I searched for the stuff, and it showed up, when I tried to delete it, it said, cannot read from file or disk. I restarted, they're gone, but my problem still remains. Maybe I deleted them wrong, and they are invincible now.

you can clear history on a site-by site basis as well -- when the drop-down list appears, use the down-arrow key to highlight the entry in question, and then hit the Delete key

No that does not seem to work meembo. Gah, this is starting to piss me off

**Edit, I've resorted to my failsafe. I will go to a bazillion sites beginning with the letter 'm' This will not only confuse the enemy, but will also hide the bad links

I used to have the same problem when using windows 98. Try opening up temporary internet files in windows explorer and switching the file view to details. Sort by website and chances are the offending material will be there ready to delete. For some reason Windows 98 just doesn't clear everything out like you tell it to.

I'm using win2000 professional, and I deleted the things manually before, as I said before. I don't think they actually exist on the system anymore, but it just thinks they do.

This is the page "Microsoft's Really Hidden Files", on the site that used to be called "fuck microsoft", but now goes by "microsuck". It'll take some DEEP effort to get rid of all of this stuff.

Most other browsers (Firefox, Opera) have much easier privacy-clearing options; if it is that much of a concern, I recommend a change.

As I said before, its not my machine, but with my failsafe up and running, and autocomplete off, I think its contained for now.

I use the arrow-delete feaure in XP all the time to conceal some browsing from my kids -- sorry it doesn't work for you
