Newegg

I usually hear good stuff about them. I ordered my brand new NF7-S V2 and Barton 2500+ last Tuesday morning from them. With Rush Processing and Two-Day Shipping. I expect it to delivery Thursday, right? So I spend all day juggling my schedule around when the two components will be delivered. Never came.

Friday: Sit around doing nothing waiting for it to come. Never comes. At the tracking site it says my package is an hour away! It surely will deliver on Friday! But nope. Then it says "Failed Delivery attempt."

I called Fedex and they said since I was in a dormitory in a college, they would need my ROOM NUMBER and phone number to deliver the package. I ask why in the hell they need my room number, because they don't deliver to individual rooms anyway. They said it's because they need the phone number (????). So I call newegg and tell them that Fedex says that my phone number isn't on the package. Newegg says it IS on the package. So why didn't Fedex deliver the package??? All they had to do is call my number when they got to my dormitory and I would have came and got it. There is even a complimentary directory phone outside the building they can use.

I've ordered Fedex before, and they used the phone outside to call my room and everything went smooth.

So I call Fedex back and ask them when they will deliver my package, and they say Monday. Rush Processing with Two Day Delivery = package received 7 days later. BULLSHIT.

i would ask to get reimbused for the rush cost

oberon 02-08-2004 01:54 PM

That sucks. I'd do what Confederate suggests.

When I was in a dorm, all packages were delivered to the dorm mail room, certainly not to any specific rooms (since commercial people weren't allowed in the halls, and it'd have been a waste of time anyway).

that's how we are too, but we don't have a "mail room" or anything like that. We have our own PO Boxes, but Fedex doesn't ship to PO Boxes. So I have to put the dormitory's building address. And then get them to call.

Get a refund from Fedex or Newegg? Technically, it's not Newegg's fault.....

Destrox 02-08-2004 02:23 PM

To be honest, this is not newegg's problem.

Things like this usually are just lessons learned when you have funky abnormal mailing situations.

Just dont reflect FedEx's problem onto NewEgg.

Jesus Pimp 02-08-2004 02:31 PM

Yeah blame your college's mail system.

Krycheck 02-08-2004 03:19 PM

I once had this problem with UPS trying to deliver my packages after work hours. "failed attempt at 6:30pm/8pm" when it clearly states that I close at 6pm on my ups account.

Cleary FedEx's fault but you may want to bring that to Newegg's attention. They may out of courtesy give you your refund on shipping.

Newegg is the best online source for hardware imho.

I kinda thought I expressed that when I said "technically it's not newegg's fault."

And it's not a "lesson learned" when I have ordered 10+ items from other shops using Fedex and it has worked beautifully.

thephuse 02-08-2004 08:55 PM

yeah.. its really too bad, but like you said, if you order 10 times, you cant blame shit from happenin once in a while.. freak incidents that you just forget and move on...

Yeah. But then you go on to say stuff like this ...

Which seems to imply that you are still blaming newegg.com for the shipping problems... at least to some folks.

You can't expect the national headquarters of Fedex, and every customer service rep working therein, to have an active directory of every college campus in North America and know automatically how to ship to these specialized locations. Every campus has a different policy. At my particular university, all packages were delivered to the physical plant and dispersed from there, regardless of size or shipper. All regular post went to the mailroom.

You'll just need to learn to include details in the second-line of the address field when shipping with either UPS, Fedex or USPS. Like include "PH#8041234567" below your name as the first line of the address. Delivery personnel are usually intelligent enough to figure things out. Give it a try, be patient and don't blame the retailers.

tritium 02-08-2004 10:32 PM

Do you know anyone that lives off campus?

ChrisJericho 02-09-2004 12:18 AM

Yes, I would agree with pretty much everyone else in that it is not newegg's fault.

My relationship with FedEx is not very pleasent. Here is a good example why: I live on a major road and had already gotten numerous deliveries from the newegg/fedex connection. One day I was expecting a pair of Sennheiser headphones when I look on the tracking page and it says delivery failed due to incorrect address. So THEN I have to drive all the way to the FedEx warehouse and get the package. After I get it at customer service I look at the address on the package. The address was CORRECT. Whoever the driver was that day was just a plain moron and couldn't find my house which is on a major road in plain sight.

Also I ordered some Corsair ram over xmas and when I got the box there was a HOLE in it. Thankfully the RAM was not crushed but it was a pretty bad handling job on FedEx's part.

I also love it when they try to deliver at 11 am. Who in the blue hell is ever at home at 11 am on a weekday?

I really like Newegg.......... but if I was given the option of either having free UPS or free fedEx shipping I would definetely go with UPS, I haven't had any problems with UPS.......yet.

Lol, i feel your pain on that one!

Thats why I'm lucky enough to know our fedex driver that does my area. We have a agreement with him for him to put it in our garage doorway. All we have to do is sign a pre-waiver for the packages. (Its a business, but usually out on the road.)

Lasereth 02-09-2004 05:48 AM

Uhh, Redjake never said it was NewEgg's fault. It's a bit weird that FedEx has delivered all those times perfectly fine...I'd be pissed off if they screwed up too. He said it was FedEx's fault since he filled out everything fine. It's not like he fucked up; the FedEx guys said that the phone number wasn't on the package. Well, it was. :) NewEgg bitched out FedEx and told them to ship it today, or else.

I've only had one problem with FedEx, and it was simply a day-late order after rush processing. But you can't really give them shit on that one; at least they didn't say my phone number was gone. :)

NewEgg blows if you live in California, unfortunately.

You might want to check out reviews of newegg at pricegrabber.com.

I have used newegg for years, but will not anymore. The last five items had to be rma'd. Go read the reviews.

You need to understand I buy hardware online several times a month, so this is not a flippant remark.

I am extremely dissapointed with them, and my last three purchase were not from them.

wraithhibn 02-11-2004 08:46 PM

Fedex was horrible delivering when I was on campus. I had to call them like 3 times to get some RAM delivered. Too bad they wont ship UPS because I live 3 miles from a major UPS hub.
