Saving Pictures

Greetings All,
How do I get Windows XP to save my pictures in jpeg format instead of jpe? Everytime I save a pic it is invariably in that format but when I want to upload or share a pic with someone on a board like this they generally require the pic to be in jpeg format. Does anyone know how I can correct this? Much appreciated. Thanks

that's weird. I haven't ran into that problem before. is jpg an option to select in the drop down list when you save the file?

wow, excellent problem you have there. If you dont have it in the drop window like Redjake said, you could try to save it however you want to then maybe open up paint or some other type of photo program and try it that way too.

If you have all your .jpe pictures in one directory, say c:\pictures, you can try this.

Start, Run, type: command
cd\pictures
ren *.jpe *.jpg

This will rename them all with the .jpg extention.

jpe and jpg are the same file just with different extentions.

Mr. Redjake is correct in that I do have a drop-down list when I try to save a picture. I have the option of either jpeg or bitmap. Unless I haven't cleared my cache recently I normally get the jpeg option but even when it says jpeg in the drop-down list either XP or IE will still save it as a jpe. What gives? Thanks for all your help thus far.

It's my impression that .jpeg, .jpg, and .jpe are all JPEG format extensions. Is there something here I don't understand? I have one file saved with all three extensions, and they all open and look identical to me. in ControlPanel>FolderOptions>FileTypes all three are listed as JPEG

JPE? In JPEG? That's unheard for me..I thought JPE is Java-Pylon Extension programs?

1. On the desktop, double-click My Computer.
2. Click Tools, and then click Folder Options.
3. On the File Types tab, under Registered file types, scroll down and then click the JPG file type.
4. Click Change, click Imaging, and then click OK.

Repeat steps 3 and 4 for file types JPE and JPEG. After modifications are complete, click Close.

*Edit: Oh damn, I thought couldn't open JPE. Just ignore my post then...I need my morning coffee...
