linux / windows question
here is what i would like to do. I would like to have a file on a linux based computer but Access it on the windows based computer. Is this possable?
Thanks |
Been awhile since I used linux but I don't think that's possible. However, it is possible for Linux to access Windows' files.
|
You didn't indicate if these are separate computers or the same computer.
|
Sure it is possible, assuming you're talking about different computers.
Set up Samba on the Linux computer and export a file share - then in the Windows computer, browse to the Linux machine just like it was a Windows computer. |
OR you could even just set up an FTP on the Linux computer. Depending on what exactly you're trying to do with it.

A third option would be ssh. Get WinSCP3 for the Windows client. SSH is standard on about every Linux distro now.

not sure what that is boner. Im working on DL linux atm and getting my comp set up. Thanks for the advise..ill post back when i hae more questions.
|
ssh is a secure replacement for telnet. scp is a compoent that comes with it that can do secure file transfers over the connection.
WinSCP is a really cool SCP client for Windows. http://winscp.sourceforge.net/eng/ |
