Ripped off by charter. (cable ISP)
4 months ago i called the tech support to raise my max speed from 768 to 2048, the next package up, they said it would take 3 days to do (busy week...) and that I should reset my modem then and it would be done. Well I trusted them and let it go, 4 months down the road I got around to checking my max band width and found it was only about 768, after being suspicious i checked the actual cap on the modem, and alas it was still 768. I called and bitched and they fixed the problem, but they refuse to refund my money. Because I did not bring it to there attention sooner.
So in retrospect when some one does work for you check their work. To check your cap it may be listed inside of your modem (not on all modems though) to reach it, type 192.168.100.1 in any browser and search through there it was under the signal section. Max Bit Rate. Well as you can imagine I’m kind of pissed that I’m out $50 so don’t let it happen to you. |
192.168.100.1 doesnt work for me :(

You can do a line speed test at DSLReports.com. It will work for any connection to the Internet; DSL, cable... They also have some tweaks on how to get your system optimized.

Dude, Charter Communications is awesome!
We got free service for about a year and they didn't evne notice (we signed up legally and then we stopped being charged for it until my mother called up when it was down and said "My cable internet is down right now." It is nice and is always fast (I just got clocked at 2020 kbps download and I am paying for 768kbps!) On high speed sites (downloading from Microsoft.com, etc. I get a consistent 320 kbps/sec) |
I have Charter as well. They upped me to 2 mbs downloads for free. I was at 768 for about a year and they just upped me for nothing. It's pretty sweet. :)

Personally, I think it's your own fault you didn't check their work. Please don't take this the wrong way, but several times when I have gotten service I didn't check and really could not fault the servicer because:
(1) Their policies specifically allowed for a limited amount of time to review their work, and I'd signed off on that in advance; (2) From their perspective, *I* could be ripping them off. So you see, it goes both ways. |
Your Download « 2477 kbps
