Pop ups through TFP?!?!?!

Occassionally when I open up TFP I get a pop up, saying something like "Wanna see fresh teens?" (I think)

Then it asks if I want to install "Dialer."

What sorta thing did I manage to pick up? It's annoying.

Ew, spyware. Get spybot search & destroy and ad-aware and run both. That'll probably take care of it.

I second that advice... You don't have Ad-Aware or Spybot? Where have you been?

Sounds like spyware to me. Ad-aware and Spybot are great programs. You might consider running both. They will usually pick up what the other doesn't catch.

Another one to run, HijackThis.

I've got Ad-aware and Spybot. Ran em both. As of this morning I'm still getting that pop up.

I'll try Hijack This when I get home.

What OS you running Averett?

Could be a messenger ad, but those only come through Windows 2000 & XP.

Averett 02-02-2004 09:54 AM

XP..

I had one of those ages ago, completely forgotten how I deleted it.

Hmm, just a stab in the dark, but do you keep Ad-Aware and Spybot up to date?

santafe5000 02-07-2004 06:00 PM

They both have tabs to get updates off the net. Ad-Aware is quick to get updates. Spybot sometimes takes a while??? or doesn't work. you just have to keep trying on it.
