Windows NT
I have a Walter Powergrinder that runs off Windows nt. And the grinder has a NIC in it. And You half to take disks down to it for ever job you do on the machine. So that is like 10 trips a day. Wastes alot of time since the computer u write programs with is not near the grinder.
What i would like to do is buy a 100ft cat5 cable and plug it into my already formed network that runs off windows 98se. But i have no expiernce with windows nt and dont know how to change the workgroup. Or how to share folders. I have no tried it yet. Figured id get you guys input b4 i go and mess with it. If its like windows 98 then we are good. Or if its simple then we good 2. Here is my questions for ppl who dont want to read all that. All apply to windows nt. 1)how do you change the workgroup? 2)how do you share a folder? Thanks ) |

If I remember properly, you can set the domain or workgroup with Windows NT by right clicking the Network neighborhood, go to properties on the context menu , then on the properties screen, the first tab (identification or computer name), there's a change button. You click on that, and you can change either the machine name, or the workgroup name. You'll need to reboot after that.
As for sharing, right click the folder you want to share. There should be a sharing item on the context menu You can setup the share through that. There may be some issues with usernames, since NT uses user based passwords for permissions. I believe you can setup a user with the same username & password as you use to log onto the Win98, so that user can get to the NT machine's shares. BTW, you didn't mention, is it NT workstation or server?
