Airport cards
Does anyone know of a company that makes airport cards for new world ibook g3's? I thing 80 dollars is way too much and there don't seem to be any discounted cards out there
|
airport is a fancy name for 802.11b I would think any old card would work. :-/
|
Well isn't it a special slot?
I can't use just any old PCI card. |
but you might be able to use any old pcmcia card, no?
|
I don't know, apple doesn't say :-)
The slot is under the keyboard and the antenna is built into the laptop. A pcmcia card that has an antenna stick out won't fit. |
Apples airport (It's just 802.11) card is a proprietary design to internalize the card to keep your pcmcia slot open on notebooks.
As apple never liscenses designs to other manufactuers, you are in fact up shit creek. If you purchased an 802.11 card or pci card you would have the same thing, but it will not fit in apples slot, which is designed for their custom made 802.11 card. |
So, what arch13 is trying to say is you must purchase Apple's Airport card for smooth integration into your iBook.
Otherwise, you could look into a USB wi-fi adapter. |
My roomate has a g3 ibook.....he has one of those little cards that goes under the keyboards with the antenna...maybe you could find one on ebay for cheap?
