LCD monitor burnout
A few days ago my monitor starting acting a bit weird when I would bring it back from being asleep or as soon as I turned it on. Before, the screen would flicker for just a moment and then return to normal. I compared it to starting an engine, I'd turn the key and the engine sounded like it wasn't going to turn over but then it finally does and you're up and running. Same with my monitor, sometimes I wasn't sure if it was going to fully light up or not. Well this morning it decided not to light up anymore, it begins to flicker and then the brightness goes away. I can still tell that there is something on the screen but there's just no brightness to it anymore. What's the problem here? What's wrong with the monitor? My friend told me that one of his friend's labtop screens did the same thing and couldn't be fixed, so will mine be the same way? Is it repairable?

sounds like the backlight died... I don't THINK that's fixable, but I'm not a monitor specialist, so I could be wrong. how old is the monitor?
|
my laptop back light has been flickering on and of for about 6months now, and its still going strong(ish), with a little shaking it turns back on.
i think the problem is fixable but at a large price...ie not cost effective to fix...so it may become a write off... maybe check out ur guarentee or see if its covered in any of your home insurance items :) |
Its about two and half years old so the warranty I had on it is long past. Why does it cost so much to fix? I'm guessing its not as easy as just replacing a few bulbs, is it? I was pretty sure I'd have to get a new one anyways, still sucks though.

Yeah, it's definitley the LCD backlight. I'm guessing that you have a desktop and not a laptop screen.
Bad news is that you can't "replace the bulb", you have to get a new backlight system. Good news is that your actual screen is still good. I'd check ebay to see if you can find some replacements. |

Thanks for your help. It did clear up some things. I'm probably just going to buy a new monitor because I'm not sure it'd be cost feasable to get mine fixed.
