[PHP] Good Resources...
 

Hey everyone,

I need a little help. I am looking for some good resource sites. just need some inspiration.

Anyone know of any sites that have some cool scripts and/or tools?

php.net owns of course. Don't know of any other sites, still new to php myself. I got the php cookbook from O'Reilly and it's great. I'd recommend it.

I've always been a fan of http://php.resourceindex.com/ , though it's not always the free solution. It's great because it also has databases of java, etc, making it a good onestop place for scripting.
It's got the largest database of scripts i've seen yet.
And to echo Juan, O'Reilly is the way to go in terms of books.

I figure if you all ready know how to program, php.net is all you'll ever need for reference.

What you do is come up with something that you want to create... strategize about what sort of functions will be needed, then look them up.

places like code.box.sk and www.devshed.com also rock. devshed keeps giving new articlies on new uses of PHP...i didnt know that PHP could be used to make images or make PDF's

How about free video tutorials? ;)

They're quite good btw. This was how I originally taught myself PHP.

I've always relied on Google and the commented version of the PHP manual at http://php.net/

Good for looking stuff up, not so great for general-purpose learning. I'll second the vote for devshed.com, since it's served me very well for good tutorials on PHP and Web development in general.

http://www.phpfreaks.com is a great site for learning things, they have many very useful tutorials and helpful people in the forums. Also they have quite a few premade scripts that are ready for you to modify and use for yourself. devshed is also a good site, but I think when you are just starting out you should definately give phpfreaks a try first.
